Achaessa James, is the product manager for equity compensation programs at the NCEO. She is responsible for the content of the NCEO’s Prep Course for the CEP exams and is the NCEO’s subject matter expert on equity compensation matters. She is a published author and regularly writes and presents on equity compensation topics.

Her NCEO publications include the Private Company Equity Compensation Administration Toolkit and If I'd Only Known That!,a collection of humorous and painful examples of what happens when otherwise competent and responsible professionals don't know what they don't know and fail to get advice before taking actions that result in consequences that range from the merely awkward to the downright serious.

Achaessa became a CEP in 2008 and has been doing equity compensation plan management and consulting since 1999.

Sarah Roberts is a Senior Equity Plan Consultant at Stock & Option Solutions, Inc. (SOS).

Sarah is an equity plan consultant with over 15 years of experience in equity plans, and more than 15 years of practice in finance and accounting. At Stock & Option Solutions she provides project and on‐site stock consulting for a variety of clients throughout the country. She specializes in equity accounting and acquisitions and has served public companies ranging in size from 200 to 4,000 employees. While a stock plan analyst at Intel Corporation, she led a project that saved the company over $8M in one year.

Sarah received her CEP certification in 2008. She holds an MBA from the Andersen School at UCLA, and is a graduate of Mills College.

Textbook Markup

Create a system of textbook markup that makes sense for you – and be consistent using it!

• Highlighters, adhesive index tabs, sticky notes, card‐stock inserts, paperclips, adhesive tape, etc.

Identify which sections of each textbook you must study –and only study those sections!

• Segregate those sections that you are not required to read for your level

Review prior level materials and transfer notes from prior year’s textbooks into new books or into Exam Topic Outlines

• Check new editions to make sure information remains valid and page references in your outline are correct

Create a study schedule

• Use the Exam Topics Outline to create a week‐by‐week study schedule.

• Don’t wait until the last minute to start studying.

• Schedule reading time and quiz‐taking time.

The Night Before

Pack up your test materials and supplies in advance

• Your test confirmation letter, the address of your testing center and map

• Textbooks, CEP binder and any extra printed material 3‐hole punched and inserted in the binder

• No. 2 Pencils and pencil sharpener or mechanical pencils with a 0.5 lead and a highlighter, and a gum or plastic eraser

• Non‐graphing calculator

• Stopwatch (that doesn’t make any beeping noises – not the one on your smartphone)

Take care of yourself !

• Do as much advance prep as possible (like setting out your clothes and ensuring you have photo ID)

• Go to sleep early the night before – do not stay up late cramming!

Test Day!

Physical comfort reduces stress

• Eat a good breakfast before you go (sealed snacks are allowed in the exam room)

• Arrive early to the exam site

• Find the restrooms

• Set up your testing area with your books and supplies

• Bring plenty of water with you into the exam room –sealed snacks are also permitted

• Wear layers of clothes to easily adjust to exam room temperatures
