The National Council of Negro Womenhas arrived in Rockdale & Newton CountiesBy NCNW Rockdale/Newton Staff Writer
Saturday, May 11th, 2013 What a GLORIOUS occasion, to witness the installation of this long-established organization that is new to the Rockdale/Newton
region...
As the Rockdale News states: “A packed room of Rockdale and Newton residents was on hand to witness the chartering ceremony of the first ever Rockdale/Newton County Section of the National Council of Negro Women Saturday at the J.P. Carr Community Center.”Facts: The NCNW is a 78-year-old organization of organizations that serves the purpose of "supporting women and youth in career development and community leadership," and focusing on issues that affect
African-American women and their families.
This chartering event was historic for both counties, which have never had a local section. There are now more than 80 founding members of the local section,

both men and women, under the leadership of Rhonda Taylor.
Ms. Taylor is the section's first president, and started in the Atlanta Regional Section working on
several committees and served as 1st Vice President and Chair of several Committees upon transferring to the DeKalb Section. In all, Rhonda has been an active member of the NCNW for over 23 years.
The purpose of the NCNW organization is to be an "umbrella of organizations that would represent the national and international concerns of black women." The NCNW also "gives black women the opportunity to realize their goals for social justice and human rights through united, constructive action."
