Oxoid – A brief history
• In mid 1800’s Mr. von Leibig concerned about malnutrition in Europe• Using left over cattle meat he began to produce a concentrated meat
extract for the masses.• Opened first factory in 1861, LEMCO Company registered in London in

Dehydrated Culture Media and Supplements
• Manufactured at Basingstoke UK and Lenexa USA
6
Prepared Media
•Manufactured in Adelaide, Lenexa, Ontario, Perth, Malaysia, and Wesel
•Media which has been rehydrated, sterilised, dispensed and quality control
tested, and is ready-to-use

Diagnostic Reagents (DR’s)
• DrySpot™ • PathoDx™ • Staphaurex™ • Staphytect Plus™ • Streptex™ • Wellcogen™
Diagnostic Regent reactionsTest 1: negative, with no clumpingTest 2, positive, the granular appearance of the clumps is clearly visible
8
Microbial Identification
Microbact™ Remel RapID™
Oxoid Biochemical Identification System (O.B.I.S)
9
Antibiotic Sensitivity
•Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (AST) discs small paper discs impregnated with an antibiotic
Minimum Inhibitor Concentration (MIC) Evaluators™ (M.I.C.E™) Strips M.I.C.E. strips give the minimum inhibitor concentration of an
antibiotic
