FAQs

Why are some Oblique photos North and South and some North-East and South-West? —Oblique content is available as individual photos, each taken from a different cardinal direction, ordinal direction, or occasionally both. Whether you see cardinal (North, South, East or West) or ordinal (North-East, South-West, South-East, North-West) photos depends on the orientation the survey flight took.

Does viewing True Ortho in MapBrowser use up my data allowance? —No, viewing True Ortho imagery does not count towards your standard imagery data allowance. True Ortho is currently included with 3D Viewer and 3D Export subscriptions.

Why is the measurement different to the equivalent one I made on the Oblique map? —The most difficult part of measuring using either method is accurately picking the top and bottom of the object due to shadows, obstructed views and the limits of resolution. With practice behavior becomes more consistent, and in tests of measuring with both 3D and oblique images, results are consistently within about 1 meter of each other.

How do I add Obliques and/or 3D to my Nearmap subscription? —You can easily add Obliques and/or 3D to your existing Nearmap package by contacting your account manager. 

Which measurement is more accurate, 3D or Oblique? —Theoretically, the oblique images offer higher accuracy, but in practice, actual measured accuracy will be determined by how well the endpoints of the measurement can be seen and how well the tool is used to place the start and endpoints. This can be affected by zoom level, perspective, and any obstructions.
