NECKLINESOThe neckline is the top edge of a garment that surrounds the neck, especially from the front view. Neckline also refers to the overall line between all the layers of clothing and the neck and shoulders of a person, ignoring the unseen undergarments.

OFor each garment worn above the waist, the neckline is primarily a style line and may be a boundary for further shaping of the upper edge of a garment with, for example, a collar, cowl, darts or pleats. In that respect it is similar to the waistline.

Sweetheart NecklineO A Sweetheart Neckline is quite

different from a V- Neckline, though the style may somewhat appear the same to some people.

O The sweet-heart neckline suits women of all shape, size and body-type.

Page 8: Neck line 29,30,22

O The sweetheart neckline is ideal for women with both, small or large bust size.

O Petite women with small breasts and narrow shoulders may wear them to appear more curvaceous.

Page 9: Neck line 29,30,22

Halter necklineO The halter-neck is idle for

average to small busted women. It bare your arms and exposes your shoulders.

O This neck-line suits the most with hourglass body-type.

Page 10: Neck line 29,30,22

Those with large chest, heavy arms and broad shoulders should avoid wearing this neckline.

Scoop NecklineO A Scoop-neck is a deep U-shape

neckline. It has alarge width and a full curve that dips down the chest.

O It covers all body-flaws and gives an illusion of a good proportion.

O It looks good on those with narrow shoulders and give maximum exposure and make a woman look broader.

Page 12: Neck line 29,30,22

OThose with smaller bust can go for this neckline.

OThis neck-line will look good on those with a short neck or a long face.

OAvoid this neck-line if you are skinny or your face is narrow as it will make you appear leaner.

Page 15: Neck line 29,30,22

Square NecklineO These are characterized by three

linear edges, the bottom edge meeting the side edges at right angles.

O The bottom edge cuts across the figure horizontally and the side edges pass over the shoulders.

O A special case of this is the slot neckline, in which the side edges are very close (roughly the width of the collar-bone points), forming a narrow slot.

Deecollete NecklineO Decollete neckline style is usually

attached to strapless blouses and has low neckline.

Page 19: Neck line 29,30,22

Round Neckline

O Round neckline is round and plain. It looks like a circle that goes round the base of the neck.

Page 20: Neck line 29,30,22

One- Shoulder Neckline

O These are asymmetrical linear necklines that cut across the torso diagonally, usually from one shoulder to under the other arm.

Page 21: Neck line 29,30,22

Choice of a NecklineO The neckline can frame the shoulders, neck and

face, and change their apparent width, height and angularity. It is generally advised that the neckline shape be chosen to balance the wearer's natural features. Thus, a face with round curves is well-framed by an angular (linear) neckline and collar, whereas an angular face is softened with curves. Similarly, a short neck and face will appear lengthened by necklines with strong vertical (or nearly vertical) lines, such as a plunging.

Page 22: Neck line 29,30,22

OV neckline (or a long knotted scarf or necklace); conversely, high necklines such as the jewel or turtleneck types balance long faces. Broad shoulders can seem more narrow with style lines that converge inwards (e.g., the halter neckline), whereas pear-shaped figures can be balanced by diverging or horizontal lines, e.g., an off-the-shoulder or boat neckline.

OThe designer should also consider the amount of decolletage the wearer would like and whether the visibility of undergarments (such as bra straps) is relevant. These factors may influence the depth and width of the neckline, respectively.
