Key Ideas

Implications for Teaching

Page 3: Need for theory

A coherent group of tested general propositions, commonly regarded as correct, that can be used as principles of explanation and prediction for a class of phenomena (Dictionary, 2014)

Page 4: Need for theory

Primarily known for his theory of communication between instructors and learners.

(Saba, 2014)

1. Feelings of personal relation between teaching and learning promote study-pleasure and motivation (Saba, 2014)

2. Fostered by well-developed self instructional material and two-way communication (Saba, 2014)

Theory of Independent Learning and Teaching (Padilla, 2011)

Concerned that progress of distance education would be hindered by lack of attention which he called “macro-factors” (Padilla, 2011)

(Saba, 2014)

Moore applied the name Transactional Distance Theory to the theory he developed in 1972.

Moore’s description of transactional distances state that if there is now a distance between learner and teacher which is not merely geographic, but educational and psychological as well (Fadilla, 2011)

In relation to distance education, transactional then means, the interplay of teachers and learners in environments that have special characteristics of their being separate from one another.

Explained that the lack of theory has weakened education

Theory of education will be one that can provide touchstone against decisions involving (Simonson, 2012)
