A very simple faux-lace pattern using yarnovers to increase width as you knit, and yarn overs that are then released to create openwork dropped stitches. Break up the garter stitch with the drop stitch row to create a lacey, delicate shawl or scarf.

START SCARF(row 1) cast on two stitches(row 2) knit 1 row

BEGIN PATTERN ONE (5 rows)PATTERN ONESimple garter stitch increasing width by yarnover after first stich on every row--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(row 3) beginning of third row, knit one, yarn over, knit remaining stitches to end, Turn(row 4) beginning of row, knit one, yarn over, knit to to end, TurnRepeat the above pattern (knit 1, yarnover, knit to end) a total of 5 times

Basically you are alternating two patterns:- A simple knit all rows with an increase at the beginning of the row made by the yarn over after the first stitch- A double yarn over pattern that you create on one row and release on the following row
