Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative Social Work Program Tarleton State University Theoretical Framework: The ideal theory for this quantitative study is to focus on the Person-in-environment (PIE). PIE is a holistic, four factor classification system used to describe and code social functioning problems with common descriptors. Social Roles in Relationships to Others Social Environment Mental Health Physical HealthMethodology: Our quantitative research is a process of steps used to collect and analyze information in order to increase our understanding of the initiative. After the target area was identified, our goals was then to place fliers in the various neighborhoods with high hopes for residents to participate in a survey utilizing a questionnaire. To insure the strength of our quantitative study, we will try hard recognize and isolate specific variables contained within the study framework, seek correlation, relationship and casualty. Results will be reported in aggregate with no identifying Results will be reported in aggregate with no identifying information. information. *Analysis & Results *Strengths & Limitations *Ethical Considerations *Implications for Social Work Preliminary Observations based on Literature Review: *Neighborhoods decline and the demise of public education often occur in conjunction. Evidence suggest that efforts to revitalize are hampered by perception of underperforming schools (Patterson, 2013). *Two major theories undergird this movement, economic/investment and the ecology of community revitalization (McGaughy, 2000). *In Tarrant County, neighborhoods such as Como, Hillside-Morningside, and Carver Heights are in desperate need of revitalization. The deterioration of these neighborhoods has taken place over the course of many years (Housing, 2013). *The revitalization of neighborhoods presents many challenges. Social work and other professions in helping to promote policies and services that addresses the needs of communities, involves the population for their decision making (Delgado, 1997). *In both urban and rural communities the results are the same. A syndrome of underfinanced and inadequate schools, insufficient medical services, dependence on the welfare system and frequent encounters with police and courts (James, 2007). *In big cities, the poor are concentrated in neighborhoods that have become breeding grounds for more and more problems. There are severely undernourished young mothers to a culture of unemployment that almost impossible to escape and can engulf an entire county (Barrette, 2011). * A community effort has been documented. HABITAT for HUMANITY/A BRUSH WITH KINDNESS this effort was implemented seven years ago. It is a collaboration proposed to make minor rehab repair on neighborhood homes (Newsletter, 2009). Problem Statements: The main factors of neighborhood deterioration are poverty, lack of businesses and lack of resources in the community (Fort Worth South Inc., n.d). Poverty in the neighborhoods has proven detrimental to the validity of local businesses and institutions. Fewer public parks, playgrounds and recreational facilities causes children to have nothing to do in the community and they tend to get bored and into trouble (Ford, 2004). Research Questions: *Was the revitalization good for this community *Has there been job increase *Are you content with the overall revitalization changes *Has the cost of living gone up *Has the crime rate decreased *Has transportation improved *Should there be more change in your community *Do you feel safer *Should historic landmarks be restored *Are the streets better Objectives: Objectives: Our objective is intended to show how revitalization can benefit neighborhoods by crime reduction, job increase and up to date community resources for an overall healthier community..,Hypotheses: With this intervention of revitalization projects within the Southside of Fort Worth, the researchers foresee an increase in business, an influx of new residence, better roads along with renewed parks and historic sites. Also, the methods of social work research will show that revitalization in deteriorating areas is vital. Along with this research, readers will obtain knowledge about revitalization and its impact. Purpose of the Study: The purpose for this research study is to collect data from residents residing in specific areas on the Southside Fort Worth and to determine if revitalization has worked. Neighborhood revitalization is relevant to the social work profession. It has been determined that healthy communities promotes healthy clients who are seeking guidance for healthy changes. With a safer and a resourceful, crime decrease and jobs increase (Barrette, 2011). References Atieno, P.A. (2009).
