Elementary and keep you informed of both school and district events, the Navigator News school
newsletter will be shared with families the last week of each month in preparation for the following
month. For our first newsletter, you received this paper copy. For the remainder of the year, the Navigator News will be posted to our school
website and sent via email.

Fridays! J • School starts promptly at 8:30 AM • Tardy bell rings at 8:30 AM • Students eating breakfast may enter the building at 8:10
AM • Students not eating breakfast may enter at 8:20 AM • School releases at 3:00 PM • For safety purposes, if you plan to change your child’s
dismissal plan for the day, please send a signed note to school that day or contact the office by 2:30pm so we can accommodate and communicate that change. If we do not receive a note or a call by the above time, students will follow their typical dismissal plan.
6TH GRADE REGISTRATION FOR FRONTIER MIDDLE SCHOOL
Very soon, all of our 5th graders will be meeting with the Frontier counseling team in preparation for their registration at FMS. Nick Rogen and Beth Zarling will be here on Feb.
15th at 9:00am for a 30-minute presentation in the cafeteria. They will have several Leadership students with
them to share about expectations and answer questions regarding the upcoming year as a 6th grader. The Frontier
Falcon will be making an appearance as well! A registration form will come home that day that must be completed and returned within the following week. Please work with your
5th grader to get those forms fully completed and returned in a timely manner. Thank you!
VALENTINE GRAMS ON SALE
STUDENT TRANSFER REQUESTS FOR 2017-18 First consideration deadline for accepting student transfer requests for the 2017-18 school year will be March 10, 2017 for all grades, K through 12. Requests received after the deadline may not be considered until the week of August 28. Requests submitted after August 23 will be reviewed after September 13 when actual enrollment counts are in All transfer requests for 2016-17 will be done electronically.
If the request is submitted by March 10, parents will be notified by April 15 if the request has been approved or denied. Approval or denial of transfer requests will be based on established criteria outlined in board policy and procedure 3131 and 3141. Parents will provide transportation for students who voluntarily attend a school outside their attendance area. For more information, call Mary Ann Mulloy-White at 683-6012 for secondary or Rayna Messer at 683-6014 for elementary.
Students who are currently approved for in-district student transfers do not have to complete a new form unless they are changing from elementary to middle school or middle school to high school.

CHARACTER AWARDS
Each month, teachers at Nelson have the opportunity to choose two students from their class to receive a character award that corresponds with the monthly STAR trait that has been taught and discussed during morning meetings.
