There certainly have been numerous students and stawho have been ill recently no doubt the change in weather has been a contribuƟng factor. The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and ReporƟng Authority (ACARA) is responsible for the development of a naƟonal curriculum, a naƟonal assessment program and a naƟonal data collecƟon and reporƟng program for all Australian school students. ACARA has recently released draŌ Australian Curriculum materials for students with disability. Our school is one of 25 schools throughout Australia that are trialing the new materials this term. Families too are welcome to have a look at the informaƟon through the ACARA website. If you would like any informaƟon regarding this exciƟng project, please don’t hesitate to contact me (or Elaine Ainslie). Last Wednesday, approximately 26 students parƟcipated in the School Sport AthleƟcs carnival at Marrara. For several students, this carnival will be the start of further representaƟon at a wider and even more compeƟƟve level. However, regardless of their individual performances, once again we received extremely posiƟve feedback about the eort, sportsmanship and thoughƞulness shown by all students. This week, several students aƩended the Aussie T Ball Challenge at Tracey Village. Again, everyone had a go and enjoyed the opportunity to mix with students from many other local schools. Well done students! At Nemarluk School we believe that it is extremely important that our students learn pracƟcal skills that will help them to become as independent as possible “EducaƟon for Life”. Students “learn through doing”. Learning should also be meaningful and enjoyable. This term, our Maths commiƩee has been busily coordinaƟng a “Potato Olympics”. To be held in week 10, this event will be a culminaƟon of lots of learning and pracƟce that students will have experienced within the Maths area using potatoes, they will be learning so much about measurement, Ɵme, size, shapes and lots more. It should be a very enjoyable, dierent and moƟvaƟng program for everyone. This week, our Assistant Principal, Lorraine, commenced a period of Long Service Leave unƟl the end of the term to travel overseas. We welcome Mrs Elaine Ainslie to the posiƟon of AcƟng Assistant Principal during Lorraine’s absence. Mrs De Boddy has been an extremely enthusiasƟc member of our teaching and leadership teams at our school. Unfortunately (for us), De has been appointed to a Project Manager posiƟon with Student Services and will be providing advice, guidance and mentoring to the Special EducaƟon teachers across the NT. De’s appointment commences on Monday 3 September and conƟnues unƟl the end of 2013. We wish De well with her new responsibiliƟes and know that she will keep in touch with us. I hope families took the opportunity to aƩend the Children’s Party at Government House last Saturday morning and that you enjoyed the event. Now we’re well into the excitement of the Darwin FesƟval. Enjoy the weekend and the many wonderful acƟviƟes that Darwin has to oer. Social Media and School Events These days social media such as facebook, twitter, blogs etc. is one of the ways we all communi-cate. It’s also a big part

of the culture of social media to share photos. Sometimes our families en-thusiastically take photos of their chil-dren when they are here for special events. However, at times, other chil-dren may appear in these photos (especially class photos). Several mem-bers of our school community, for many and varied reasons, cannot have their faces and names accessible on the internet. Therefore, we ask that parents do not post photos to their personal social media pages of school events which include other children.

Thank you for your help in keeping all our students cyber safe.

Parents, staff, contractors, visitors

Please ensure you sign in at the office if you need to proceed through to the rest

DENTAL MATTERS: Many Nemarluk parents and carers have al-ready arranged a dental check-up appointment for their children this year. It is very important that your child’s has an oral health check every 12 months, as bad teeth and gums can cause other illnesses.

This is an invitation to those families whose child/ren have not had a dental check-up this year, to contact Parap School Dental Clinic on 89822966 to ar-range a suitable appointment time. The dental staff will be working at Ludmilla Dental clinic for 10 days in September. If this location suits you better this can be arranged when you ring Parap.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: All children attending dental appointments will be required to be accompanied by a parent or carer. Being present during your child's appointment helps you to understand what treatment is required and how to keep your child's mouth and teeth healthy. Parents can access dental services for their children at any NT Government facility that is conven-ient to their child/ren’s school, home or workplace.

For further information visit the Oral Health Services website: www.health.nt.gov.au/oral_health
