They had been practising every week since returning to school so they all reached their personal best. Though this year was very different without parents and the Nemingha community there to support the students, it did not deter the students’ determination and pride. Students and teachers were cheering and dancing to ‘Eye of the Tiger’ as competitors ran past the gate. It was an amazing sight to see the whole school lining the school oval to cheer on our Infants students as they ran the course, some for the very first time. It was topped off at the end by the house war cries the students have been practising since returning to school. Well done to Emus for taking the win. Term 2, Week 9 25 June 2020

Nemingha’s Cross Country On Friday last week there was a sea of blue, green, yellow and red marching towards the paddock as the whole school came out to cheer each other on as they ran around the course. They had been practising every week since returning to school so they all reached their personal best. We CareOur school motto “We Care” is such a wonderful motto to live our lives by. It’s not just about school but life in general. Something that will carry us through our entire life. I read an article a number of years ago about the philosophy of Charles Schultz, the creator of the ‘Peanuts’ comic strip. It posed a number of questions that you don’t have to actually answer but it reminds me of our motto.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last ten Premiers of New South Wales.

3. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.

4. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.

5. Name the last decade’s worth of NRL premiership winners.

How did you do? The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here’s another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a couple of the teachers who aided your journey through school.

2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.

5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier? The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones who care.

Welcome to our teamStarting next term, 5/6R will welcome their new teacher, Mrs Karyn Barrett. As Ms Reid retired earlier this year, it opened up a permanent posistion which has been filled by Mrs Barrett as an incentive transfer. Karyn comes to us from Walgett Community College, where she has taught for 13 years. She has a wealth of experience teaching in country schools and is now looking forward to working at Nemingha.

Karyn will be visiting the school next Monday to work with staff to plan their teaching program for next term.

Thank you to Miss Georgie Wall, who taught 5/6R this term and has been a valued member of our staff since Ms Reid left.

Lost propertySince returning to full-time learning this term, the number of items in our collection of lost property have exploded. These two photos show only a sample of the items that have been left at school over the last five weeks. None of these items are able to be returned to their owner as they have NO NAME on them.

As part of our routine cleaning and in preparation for the holidays, all lost property items remaining at school on the last afternoon of the term will be either disposed of or washed and donated to charities. All uniform items will be washed and donated to the school’s clothing pool.

If you are missing items please remind your child to look through our lost property collection. With school holidays just over a week away now is the time to buy a permanent marker or order name tags to label all your child’s items. Please ensure ALL lunch boxes/bags, drink bottles, food containers, jumpers, jackets, track pants and hats have your child’s name clearly written on them.

Investing in a $3 permanent marker could save families hundreds of dollars in lost uniform and food containers each year.

Our Winter holidays commence next Friday with a two week break.

Students will return to school on Tuesday 21 July.
