The Public Theater
The Neoclassical movement of purity, rhythm and order made its way into
literature, paintings, music, politics, theater and architecture in the 18th
century. Not only was it a rejection of the ornamental and chaotic
movements that came before it, but also a mirror to the Classical thought of
ancient Roman and Greek society.
A century and a half later, we find that Modern thought is a reflection of
Neoclassicism. Sharp contrasts, symmetry and simplicity proved to be
important design criteria not only in Neoclassical art, but also for the simplistic
Modern movement of our time. With this in mind it seems fitting that this
historic Neoclassical building will be restored with Modern style to become a
mecca to the arts. Our lighting design is a fusion of Modern art and
Neoclassical principles. Symmetry and order are melted together with color
and futurama to produce a timeless and inspiring aura for both theater
patrons and public passerby.
On the exterior, eccentric gradients play with elegant columns of warm
light and echo the matrimony of old style and new ideas. The building feels
alive, and lures people in through the lobby directly to the box office. Above
the box office, the donor wall is gracefully washed with an eye-catching gra-
dient that is imitated by the pleasant embrace of the bar and information
desk. The passion and history behind this proposal encourages young and ag-
ing patrons alike to harbor a loyalty to this theater in particular as well the fine
arts in general.
Where passion for classic and modern art unite.
