It is inflammation of the kidneys, causing them to

lose function. WHAT IS NEPHRITIS?

• TYPES:

• Interstitial nephritis - caused by allergic or antibiotic reactions

• Glomerulonephritis - inflammation in the glomeruli

• Interstitial nephritis - inflammation of the spaces between renal tubules

• Pyelonephritis - inflammation that results from an urinary tract infection or commonly caused by autoimmune disorders that effects the major organs (usually in young teenage girls)

• Lupus nephritis - inflammation of the kidney systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE); disease in the immune system

• Athletic nephritis - resulting from exercise

• Age, hypertension, presence of nephrotic range proteinura

• Hepatitis C (Glomerulonephritis increases the risk)

• Genetic passing

• Diabetes

• Heart defects

• Weak immune systems

• Tuberculosis

• Syphilis

• Injecting drugs (drug usage)

• Viral infections

• Polyarteritis

• Problems with body's immune system

• Kidney shut down

What is the age range of Canadians getting nephritis?

• 40-90 years old

• The older you are the higher the risk

How many Canadians get nephritis?

• Over 200,000 Canadians get nephritis and die

• Glomerulonephritis - third most common cause of kidney failure in Canada and also twice as often in males.

• Ninth highest cause of death rate in the world due to the loss of proteins and often results in strokes

What is the medical treatment for nephritis?

• Antibiotics and pain relievers (if pyelonephritis)

• Calcium channel blockers (if high blood pressure)

• Drink lots of water and eat less sodium

• Serious occasions involved kidney transplants

Symptoms of General Nephritis

• Smelly, reduced, cloudy ruin with blood

• High blood pressure

• Loin pain (lower abdominal pain)

• Difficulty of breathing

• Edema (swelling)

• Puffiness in eyes and feet

• Kidney inflammation

• Nausea and vomiting

• Headaches

• Weight loss
