NextGen CNS Test Bed

• Sensis Corporation MLAT surveillance (18 RUs) and 802.11fixed wireless comm network

– Installed at 3 Cleveland airports (CLE, BKL, LPR) and NASA Glenn Research Center

– Operate in unlicensed 2.4 GHz band• ITT Corporation in process of installing

802.16 mobile and fixed wireless comm network at CLE and GRC

– Base stations (2) and CPE (6)– GRC holds 7 licenses in 5.1 GHz band

• Modifications planned for GRC’s “THEVAN” and potential use of S-3 or T-34 for emulation of transportable assets and mobile users

High Speed SatCom Network• Globally Available • Affected by Weather• Higher Bandwidth

• High Latency• High Cost

Low Speed SatCom Network• Globally Available• Low Bandwidth• High Latency

• Very High Cost• Redundant

High Speed LOS Network• Globally Available • High Bandwidth

• Low Latency• Lower Security• Moderate Cost

High Speed Terrestrial• Not Available when Mobile

• High Bandwidth• Low latency• Lower Cost

Mobile Network

How do you decide which path the data should take? How do you cause the network(s) to route the data via this path?

Destination Network(for Operations)

Destination Network(for Command & Control)

Entertainment

How Do You Select and Implement the Routing Path?

Destination Network(for Entertainment)

Low Rate VHF• Reliable

• Low Latency

Network Partitioning by ServiceArchitecture Example

QoS & Security Service Levels for:

• Network Control• Voice over IP• High Priority

• Special Projects• General Purpose

Networks are logically partitioned.

Many logical networks share a common physical

infrastructure.

QoS can be managed by both network & flow

Antenna Systems

We need to share radio systems. We cannot have separate radios for each service.

Note, this picture does not show:• Satellite links

• Passenger service links• Gate links (WiFi)

• Gate links (umbilical cord)
