Expected changes in energy usage
Increase in electricity demand because of large usage of electric cars and
heat pumps
Expectation: electricity demand will increase by 32-45% in 2025, however, gas
demand will reduce because of better insulation of houses
In 2025, it is expected to have 1 milion
electric cars in the Netherlands.
In 2025, 80% of the new houses in the
Netherlands will have heat pumps..

Future challenges in network
simulations
• Continuously variable power flow profile in the network
• Simultaneous loading factor will be high
• On-line data collection (smart metering) and quick communication with
the clients
• Fast simulation tools are needed to facilitate demand-supply match
• Voltage quality conditions should be verified continuously
• Loading and status of network components (e.g. cables, transformers)
need to be checked regularly
