The NetWorker Installation Guide describes how to install the NetWorker server, storage node, client, and NMC software.

NetWorker server softwareInstall a supported version of the NetWorker server software on the NetWorker serverhost. The NetWorker server host is usually a separate host, but the server host canalso be the NMSAP host.

You might require specific NetWorker server versions to support specific NMSAPfeatures as described in the NMSAP release notes.

Use a supported version of the NetWorker server that works with the NetWorkerclient version installed on the NMSAP host. The operating systems that are used mustsupport the NetWorker server version that is used.

NMC server softwareInstall a supported version of the NMC software on a network host to provide a userinterface with the NetWorker software and NMSAP.

NetWorker Authentication ServiceThe NetWorker Authentication Service provides centralized token-basedauthentication to components in the NetWorker environment. NetWorker uses theNetWorker Authentication Service to authenticate NMC and CLI users. You canconfigure the NetWorker Authentication Service to use a local user database orexternal identity providers (LDAP and AD) for authentication.

The NetWorker Installation Guide provides details on the installation and configurationrequirements for the NetWorker Authentication Service software.

NetWorker storage node softwareInstall a supported version of the NetWorker storage node software on the host thatmanages the backup storage devices. You can configure a NetWorker storage node onthe same host as the NetWorker server, on the same host as NMSAP to supportbackups to a local device, or on a separate host.

Use a supported version of the NetWorker storage node that works with theNetWorker client version installed on the NMSAP host and with the NetWorkerserver. The operating systems that are used must support the NetWorker storagenode version.

NetWorker client softwareInstall a supported version of the NetWorker client software on the supported SAPserver host before you install NMSAP on that host. Install both the NetWorker baseclient and extended client software packages.

On an SAP Oracle server, NMSAP can use the NetWorker Snapshot Management(NSM) feature to provide a high-availability storage environment for snapshotbackups and restores. To enable the snapshot operations, install the NetWorker baseclient and extended client software packages on both of the following hosts:

l NMSAP host

l A mount host

SAP HANArequires the hdbbackint program to be accessible fromthe /usr/sap/SID/SYS/global/hdb/opt directory.Ensure that the SIDadm operating system user has executable permissionson the hdbbackint file, where SID is the system ID of the SAP HANAsystem.

l On an SAP Oracle server, perform one of the following tasks:

n Copy the backint program from the /usr/sbin directory (UNIX orLinux) or the NetWorker_install_directory\nsr\bin directory(Windows) to the directory where the SAP BR*Tools reside.

n Create a symbolic link that points from where the SAP BR*Tools resideto /usr/sbin/backint (UNIX or Linux only).

n For BR*Tools 7.10 or later, set util_path=full path to directory containingbackint in the BR*Tools configuration file, initDBSID.sap.

2. If you are installing NMSAP for the first time on the host, register and enableNMSAP to work with the NetWorker software.

The NetWorker Licensing Guide describes licensing and enabling of software.

If you are updating from a previous NMSAP release, you do not need toreenable the software.

3. If you perform SAP split-mirror backup operations on an SAP Oracle server, install and enable the required replication management software.

Install NMSAP on both the production host and the mount (data mover) host.Refer to the replication management software documentation for additionaldetails.

4. Ensure that the automatic wizard registration succeeded:

a. Log in as the root user (UNIX or Linux) or system administrator (Windows).

b. At a new command prompt, type the appropriate command:

l On UNIX or Linux, type the following command:

nsradmin -p nsrexecd

l On Windows, type the following command:

nsradmin.exe -p nsrexecd

c. At the nsradmin> prompt, type the following command:

print type: NSR remote agent

Check that the command output includes the correct values for "backuptype" (database or application type that you want to protect) and "productversion" (version of NMSAP that you installed). You can run the exitcommand to return to the original console.

If the command output is missing or does not contain the correct values, then the NetWorker Remote Exec service (the nsrexecd or

The NMSAP man pages are located in the same directory as NetWorker clientman pages. For example, if the man pages are located in the default directory, ensure that MANPATH includes /usr/share/man.

6. Optionally, register the NMSAP product information with the SAP SystemLandscape Directory (SLD). Registering NMSAP product information with theSAP SLD repository (optional) on page 23 provides details.

7. On UNIX or Linux, to ensure the success of backups and restores, check thatthe /nsr/applogs directory and its subdirectories have the 01777permissions.

The NMSAP installation sets the permissions to 01777 for /nsr/applogs andits subdirectories. These permissions are required for non-root database usersto create temporary files and logs during backups and restores. The sticky bit isalso set to ensure that the files can be removed only by the file owners. Forexample, the permissions appear as follows:

drwxrwxrwt 2 root root 4096 Dec 22 12:17 /nsr/applogs

8. On Windows, to ensure the success of backups and restores, completed thefollowing tasks:

l Restart the database services.

l Close and reopen any command prompt window or console that will be usedto run backups or restores.
