Anchoring• What is anchoring
– A NLP Technique– Used to change state quickly
• i.e from stressed to calm• Or from sad to happy
– It allows you to retain the ‘new state’ when under provocation
• Theoretical Background– Pavlov (1927/1960)– Classical Conditioning – Conditioned response– Chaining– Watson (1921) – Baby Albert– Generalisation

Information you need to know
• Anchor – the stimulus used to induce the desired state
• Resource State – the desired state
• Establishing an anchor chaining or linking the state and resource state, by producing them both at the same time (Conditioning)
• Activating the anchor – using the anchor to produce the resource state after the two have been conditioned
• Automatic unconscious anchors – when the resource state occurs immediately. In the presence of the anchor

place, family member– A person – family member,
friend or mentor– Object – flower, piece of

shoulder– Making a small action– Pressing an acupressure point

The usefulness of anchors
• Anchors can be used:– In situations when you
want to change how you are feeling•When you are with someone
who puts you down or makes you feel nervous
– In situations where you would normally need to rehearse a feeling •Feeling confident when
giving a presentation– In situations when you
need to regain a state you have just lost•Feeling in control

Next• Installing an anchor
• Uninstalling a negative anchor
• Introducing supervision
• Group supervision
