the simplicity of mindfulness

1. What is, is

2. What is, can only be known through experience

3. Words hide truth that actions do not

4. In fear, you ignore truth your senses perceive

5. In passion, people will put a lie above the truth

6. Lies prevail, truth prevails eventually

7. Mindfulness will in turn create misery, then calm and peace

8. Being mindful is to let reason rule

9a. Action has reaction and consequences

9b. Fear of consequences leads to inaction

9c. Be accountable when in action

10. Truth and reason are mindfulness in action

corporate mindfulness

neurofeedback for mindfulness

training brain wavelengths and states to consciously and instantly enter a state of mindfulness when emergent conditions demand fluid logic and confident wisdom; to then train the foundations of mental prowess outside the state of mindfulness in order to sustain that conscious instant

in the calm stillness of the mind and body; existing and aware in the present to absorb and understand the visible and the hidden; in a detached state, without judgment and preconceived notions - to then gather intelligence to make wise choices and decisions for the future

…it is not about thinking nothing and hoping to detachedly observe everything. Emotional control …like sleep, like meditation, like emptying your mind…is an active brain process.

Mindfulness is a deliberate & active process that need conscious prefrontal lobe, ACG & related brain cortical network activation + cerebellar control.

Corporate leadership with mindfulness catalyzes connections. Understanding the physics and chemistry of atomic quantum energy orbitals, demystifies the idea of shared energy in the workplace. It is logic and science that rules the concept of shared visions and understanding.

The brain is the master controller of this operation.A mindful state is its tool and its operational methodology

Neurofeedback and what it does

Two Components:•methodology of operant conditioning which in a purposeful, systematic training, gives one control over one’s emotions and mind states, and the ability to get “into the performance zone”•equipment that monitors and measures the electrical activity of the brain and trains the brain to be readily available to life’s requirements

Page 10: Neurofeedbac k via the Peak Performance Training: corporate mindfulness Dr. Theva Nithy – ntheva@gmail.com

Why Neurofeedback Works(Operant Conditioning)

• Brain can change with assistance directed by rewards: for example - light, video, game points and sound

• Brain assists in finding best/better approach using the newly built brain pathways and networks

• Brain will remain in new state as it “feels better”

• Brain is continually used, maintaining “new skill”

Why the technology works…the brain is accurately mapped!

THE potential CEO of the BRAIN…The Frontal Lobe

•makes choices & decisions•focuses & maintains attention on-task•controls emotions & impulses•maintains purpose

Are you connected to you brain? Are you THE CEO of it?

brain & life actually…

• Delta: deep, uninterrupted sleep • Theta: the period before falling asleep, filled with visualization &

imagery • Alpha: deep breathing (pranayam yoga), connect to your body

[;-)]• SMR: play a sport such as squash, with focused, unstressed

attention• Low Beta: read a non-fiction book attentively and with

understanding• High Beta: make yourself panic, obsess, get furious, love and

lust hard• Gamma: play sudoku with a controlled level of stress, anger &

excitement

Neurofeedback training for a still mind

Traditional mindfulness training tools:Relaxation, Goal Setting, Meditation Visualization & Imagery, Self-Talk. Lecture. Listen. Lost.

Questions we could be asking:

•Can we “design” a training protocols for the mindful brain?•Can we “bypass” ingrained, aroused brain circuits? •Can we “install” new, consciously controlled, efficient and calm brain networks?•Can we “entrain” elements of a mindful state; then work and live in that state as needed?•Can we “hardwire” new performance protocols that redefine mindful states?

Page 22: Neurofeedbac k via the Peak Performance Training: corporate mindfulness Dr. Theva Nithy – ntheva@gmail.com

What does “a mindful state” mean in the context of neurofeedback?

• Training the Attention Network to sustain focused attention without becoming aroused

• Training to keep Focus up while keeping Arousal/Stress down

• Finding the best Focus/Arousal/Attention balance for specific tasks

• Actively entering a calm, detached state, where listening, seeing, feeling, smelling and tasting are optimized without becoming aroused

• Actively stilling the emotional cortex/cerebellum to non – response and the cortex to non – thought; while observing and collecting intelligence

Corporate Mindfulness Self Awareness Check List

1. Rules, goals, systems at the workplace guide me, they do not govern me

2. I am free of anger, anxiety and stress while in my work spaces 3. My moods are not affected by my competitiveness and need to excel 4. I enjoy working with my colleagues and meeting clients5. I do not judge the people in my life, and try not to form preconceived

notions about them6. My work and life are in balance7. I am aware that the world and people can be volatile, uncertain,

complex and ambiguous – and preformed notions about anything is wasteful

8. I get enough sleep. (Each “True” answer scores 1 point. Scores of 5 or lower indicates you are probably not aware of this thing called

mindfulness)

that mindful instant

Page 25: Neurofeedbac k via the Peak Performance Training: corporate mindfulness Dr. Theva Nithy – ntheva@gmail.com

the mindful instant

• Mindfulness involves a mental state, which includes motivation, attention, focus, centeredness, energized relaxation, and detached awareness

• Achieving this contradictory state and balance is achieved through neurofeedback and enhanced with tidal breathing exercises

• Neurofeedback helps you to recognise when you are being mindful

• Once you experience mindfulness, you will not forget it. Knowledge of it assists in organising yourself towards getting back into it

• Think of mindfulness as a balanced mid-point of extremes. • On one extreme is very low activation such as during sleepy-relaxation with low

motivation, which leads to minimal “doing and being”. • On the other extreme is extreme arousal which impairs detached observation and stillness

of the physical brain and the metaphysical mind • Finding your balance point leads to a mindful state

The Mindful instant is an active, non-aroused, fully focused and attentive , prepared for intelligence gathering and detached state of being and doing; which progresses indefinitely under your control.

It is an extreme state of activation with no arousal.

When you are mindful in your work-space, you become…

• a calm, resourceful person who is a wellspring of creativity, innovation and solutions

• able to perceive expectations and problems as challenges rather than threats and difficulties

• Likely to derive better job satisfaction from peak performance, rather than from material gain, wealth and power

• a source of positive energy and calmness for people around you
