Page 1
The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) continues to work diligently with key trade partners, stakeholders and policy makers to ensure that the food and agriculture sector continues to see economic growth. Our Trade and Economic Development Program releases a detailed economic analysis every biennium, but trade changes almost monthly. To ensure that industry and partners are up-to-date, we will be issuing quarterly trade reports. If you are a new company looking to grow into the global markets, an existing company who is looking for new market opportunities, or have questions related to trade or economic development within the food and agriculture sector, please feel free to contact us at [email protected].

To finish off 2020, Nevada food and agriculture exports had their strongest quarter (Q4) on record. In Q4 of 2020 (Oct-Dec), Nevada exported $94.87 million of commodities, up by $8.4 million from the Q2 reported exports of $82.4 million. Nevada started the year reporting $79.06 million in exports for Q1 of 2020. This was down from export totals seen in 2017 and 2018, and can be attributed to the impact of COVID-19 on global supply chains. Supply chains started to recover in Q2 of 2020, leading to a swift rebound in food and agriculture exports.

Figure 3 highlights Nevada’s top food and agriculture trade partners. As seen in the graph, South Korea and Canada imported over $57 million in agricultural goods from Nevada. These countries were followed by Peru, who has substantially increased their purchase of powdered dairy from Nevada. Some of the decline seen in Canada and Mexico was due to trade tension. It should be noted that middle class growth throughout South America and Asia has led to substantial increases in agriculture trade opportunities as evident within Figure 3.

Figure 4 highlights our top exports by commodity. Nevada’s top agriculture exports for 2020 included coffee and dairy products. These exports are primarily attributable to the Carson Valley Starbucks Roastery and the Dairy Farmers of America plant in Fallon. As seen within these other categories Nevada has a wide array of agricultural exports.
