GETTING SCENT-IMENTAL: HIBISCUS The subtle scent of the delicate hibiscus flower, used in

many fragrances, can take you away to a calming,

beautiful island. As a delicious tea it is filled with Vitamin

C and antioxidants. Tuck the beautiful flower behind your

right ear in Hawaii to sign you are single and looking for

love. The beautiful plumes attract bees and hummingbirds for their sweet nectar

and it is a gourmet dessert for the adorable 3-toed sloth.

OWN YOUR OWN MASTERPIECE Proceeds from the

purchase of artwork, calendars or cards help fund art

supplies and other special programs at the Adult Day Care

Centers of Las Vegas & Henderson.

GOOD MOOD FOODS Lentils ! A

nutritious food and a staple for millions of

people, lentils are a good source of energy, they

also contain a range of micronutrients, protein

and prebiotic carbohydrates. Several studies

have demonstrated that the consumption of

lentils is immensely connected to the reduction

in the incidence of diseases such as diabetes, obesity, cancers and

cardiovascular diseases. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5713359/

LENTIL TACOS! Submitted by Ellen J. 68 years young

Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat; cook and stir onion and garlic until tender, about 5 minutes. Mix

lentils and taco seasoning into onion mixture; cook and stir for 1 minute.

Pour chicken broth into skillet and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer until

lentils are tender, 25 to 30 minutes. Uncover the skillet and cook until mixture is slightly thickened, 6 to

8 minutes. Mash lentils slightly; stir in salsa. Serve about 1/4 cup lentil mixture in each taco shell.

1 small clove garlic, minced

2/3 cup dried lentils, rinsed

1 tablespoon taco seasoning

1—2/3 cups chicken broth or

vegetable broth

2/3 cups of salsa

Dee Dee Woodberry Activity Director

Our smiling Dee Dee has been with

Nevada Senior Services for 13 years.

She was born in Southern California

where she started creating art on paper

her father would bring home from his

work in the garment industry. Dee Dee worked for 15

years in the aerospace industry for Hughes & Allied

Aerospace Engineering– She flew Cessna planes and

volunteered to test “experimental flying machines” !

Changing careers as she was raising a family in Arizona,

she returned to the arts and received her AA degree in

Art and was trained by the Phoenix Art Museum to

teach in the Maricopa County Schools. Later, after

moving to Las Vegas, she cared for her grandmother

who had complex medical issues. Dee Dee received

special care training at Sunrise Hospital in order to

keep her grandmother at home. As Dee Dee dropped

her children at school, she noticed the Adult Day

Program (Then at the Temple Beth Am ) and inquired

about volunteering– The rest is history...
