Votes counted from the Surrey Artists Open Studios summer event were tallied and the artists with the most votes have been invited to showcase their work as a part of the exhibition. The public are asked to vote again during the show to chose their overall favourite. The votes are counted by visitors, and a selected panel of judges will decide the Surrey Artist of the Year 2012. The winning artist will be announced at a prize presentation on 19 October, and the prize includes a solo exhibition at the New Ashgate Gallery.

A must see show for both novice and expert collectors of craft. All work is handmade, making it unique and environmentally friendly. You’re sure to find a perfect gift.
Trisha Crocker has been working in clay and bronze for two decades and her work is informed by play. Therefore, nothing is replicated and all is built from imagination and experimentation. Trisha’s women are about the uniqueness of the female form: their phallic appearance developing through the natural progression of play along with the tactile quality of clay.
The title of the exhibition, Please Touch Me, encourages the viewer to handle the pieces and feel their form, appreciating the many sides of women. It is a reminder that women need to be touched and appreciated for their innate individuality and beauty.
Trisha Crocker was born in Hollywood and has lived in England all of her adult life.

Visual Diaries brings together three artists. Holly Drewett’s prints explore themes of journey, landscape, architecture and sense of place. Influenced by India and Nepal, the work celebrates the rich culture and colour that is so prominent in these countries. At the heart of this work is printmaking; intrigued by both traditional and digital techniques the processes are allowed to overlap and the results are used to develop the work. Holly Drewett

Visual Diaries:
S.W. Hayter
Annual Exhibition of Original 19th & 20th Century art works
Joanne Hummel-Newell collects printed and handwritten ephemera and this is an important part of her creative process. She gathers things, scraps, shopping lists, tickets found on the street, at a train station, pockets, all of a particular appearance—discoloured, loved, lost, stained, beautiful and damaged. All of which become part of Joanne’s drawing cuttings and collage materials.
Craig Shuttlewood is interested in experimenting with surface and layers, and his work has gradually transformed into a visual diary. Colourful paintings on canvas, found wood and panel express quirky illustrative elements and words based on the beauty of everyday observations and stories. Tall buildings, trees, cup cakes, angels and birds all appear along with snippets of found printed materials to make these unique pieces.
