Virginia Ray’s paintings and Jessica Jordan’s

ceramic explore ideas of landscape and

change, caused either by man or nature.

Jessica uses aerial views of the

downs, looking at the changing

landscape through the seasons.

She explores corroded surfaces, the

contrast of rough and smooth line,

patterns and texture that are found

on stones, wood, glass and metal

that have been weathered and

broken down from natural erosion.

Known for selecting contemporary craft

of the highest quality and skills, we are

delighted to present new work by:

Virginia’s work seeks

to confirm the idea

that landscape is

first and foremost

a site of history, a

documentation

of life and events

that are deeply

interwoven

with man.

In her vibrant abstract paintings Lesley

explores the materiality and spirituality

of life.

She has drawn inspiration from scientific theories

such as chaos and superstring theories as well

as from visits to India, Laos and Cambodia.

Lesley makes work that is contemplative and

invites curiosity.

Louise Davies is a painter

and printmaker.

Her prints are concerned with

the landscape: some based on

childhood memories, reflecting on

the countryside and coast of the

west of England. She combines layers

of strong translucent colour with a

sensitive line drawing and calligraphic

marks, portraying the fluidity of the

ever changing elements of nature.

She was awarded the Curwen Print

Prize in 2012.

Professional Development Award

Influenced by her research into early 1700s

Japanese tableware and Italian architecture,

Michelle’s work explores these forms in porcelain.

Through carefully constructed geometry and

optical effects, she recreates evocative and

abstract architectural ideas.
