Biometric Characterization

Universality:

the degree to which

the biometric trait is

present in all

members of the

target population.

Stability: the level of resistance of the biometric trait over ageing, disease, injury and other factors. Also known as “Permanence”.

Collectability: the ease by which good quality initial samples can be acquired. FTE is the relevant metric.

Resistance to circumvention: the vulnerability of the modality towards biometric fraud (such as impersonation or obfuscation).

A class action lawsuit against Facebook says the data-hungry social media giant violated the Illinois Biometrics Information Privacy Act when it created the world’s largest face-print database without informing users of exactly how their images would be used or obtaining written consent to perform biometric searches on them.
