1. Today is National Walking Day!
2. Campus Safety Plan by Chief Deputy K. Smith, Comal County Constable PCT#3 and Rocky
Working on a plan to improve safety on our campuses. Started with an active shooter presentation to the
employees. Moved on to working with and focusing on the elementary schools. Hope to follow those students all
the way through high school. Lamar and Lone Star had all day presentations. Next year the hope is to be a part
of Red Ribbon week. Emphasis will be on 9th grade and high school. Deputy Smith will show up at lunch and stay
until lunch is over. Two weeks ago we started conducting searches through the high school. Will be happy to do
presentations to PTA. The idea is to have the position be available for the district to be able to use them any time
they need to.
3. Breakfast in the Classroom Update "Breakfast in the Classroom Funding Available!”
http://schoolnutrition.org/snt/bic/archives/ investigating a grant to subsidize for additional staff and supplies to
implement breakfast in the classroom.
4. AHA Heart Healthy Habits and Student Education: Jenifer Hanson emphasizing jump rope for heart. Starting
with elementary school kids. Teaching them to take care of their hearts now to prevent heart disease in the future.
Teach about smoking, vaping, and more. We have a donation coming to our district in the fall. There will be
around $2000-$2500 in CPR kits coming to the school. May 6th there is a Heart and Stroke Walk at Landa Park.
Students can get volunteer hours for helping. AHA is second to the national government in funding research.
5. Wellness Policy Revision by TASB FFA policy is the greatest area of revision. Will form a subcommittee to
look at specifics. Public notice must be provided of working on the plan. Attached documents will give TASB
changes.
