The Beatles played here on a staggering 27 occasions which apart from the Cavern was the venue they appeared at the most. It was also the venue that saw them perform before their largest live concert audience on the UK mainland. TheTower also played host to many other outstanding performers includingThe Rolling Stones and Little Richard. It originally sported an iron tower which, was second only in height to the EiffelTower.The tower was dismantled in 1921 but the ballroom remained. Later known asThe Golden Guinea and RJ's. The Beatles appeared here in 1961. 5 Albert Marrions Photographic Studio, 268 Wallasey Village, Wallasey, CH45 3HB. The Beatles first official photo shoot took place here. 6 Grosvenor Ballroom, 66 Grosvenor Street, Wallasey, CH44 1AQ. * The Beatles performed here on 14 occasions in 1960 and 1961.The building is almost the same. 7 Buchanan Road, Wallasey, CH44 8DS. The first Beatles fan club was launched here in May 1962. 8 Wallasey Town Hall, Wallasey, CH44 8ED. Opposite Buchanan Road theTown Hall was the venue for Paul McCartney’s niece’s wedding with Paul in attendance. 9 Embassy Club, 140 Borough Road, Wallasey, CH44 6NH. The Silver Beatles played here in 1960, 10 Mersey Ferries, Woodside, CH41 6DU. The Beatles appeared on 4 occasions on the popular Mersey Ferry MV Royal Iris popularly known as ‘The Fish and Chip boat’. 11 Majestic Ballroom, 46 Conway Street, Birkenhead, CH41 6JD. * Currently a Chinese restaurant the Beatles played here on 17 occasions betwwen 1961 and 1963 including an appearance when the crowd was so large that two further shows had to be arranged for the disappointed fans who were unable to gain admission.The Majestic was owned by theTop Rank entertainment organisation and played host to many top performers including The Rolling Stones andThe Searchers. 12 Beno Dorn, Tailors, 17-19 Grange Road West, Birkenhead, CH41 4BY. The Beatles first stage suits were designed here early in 1962. 13 YMCA, 56 Whetstone Lane, Birkenhead, CH41 2TF. One appearance here on 8 September 1962. 14 Technical College, Borough Road, Birkenhead, CH42 9QD. The Beatles played here on 3 consecutive Fridays in February 1962 for the popular student dances. Housing now stands on the site. 15 St Paul's Presbyterian Church Hall, North Road, Birkenhead, CH42 2LB. The Beatles played here on 2 occasions in 1962. Long demolished, the hall stood on the corner of Rocky Bank Road. 16 Hulme Hall, Bolton Road, Port Sunlight, CH62 5DH. * The Beatles appeared here on 4 occasions in 1962 but it was their third appearance which was the most significant for on 18 August, Ringo Starr made his official debut with the band.Their final appearance on 27 October was also not without significance for prior to going on stage they took part in a seven minute interview for Clatterbridge and Cleaver hospitals conducted by Monty Lister. Hulme Hall is situated in the delightful model village of Port Sunlight which was built by Viscount Leverhulme to house his factory employees. 17 Victoria Hall, Village Road, Higher Bebington, CH63 8RH. * Paul was a frequent visitor to this area visiting his relatives.The Beatles made one appearance at the hall on 4th August 1962. 18 Travellers Rest Public House, Mount Road, Higher Bebington, CH69 8PJ. A popular watering hole of Paul’s. 19 Irby Village Hall, Thingwall Road, Irby, CH61 3UA. * One but significant appearance in September 1962.Their fee of £35 was £10 short on the night and a fundraising event at the bowling green opposite was arranged the following week to make up the shortfall. 20 Barnston Women’s Institute, Barnston Road, Heswall, CH61 1BT. * The Beatles appeared here on 3 occasions in 1962. They appeared in stage suits for the first time. 21 Baskervyle Road, Heswall, CH60 8NJ. Paul and Mike McCartney purchased a home for their father here in 1964 for £8,750. 22 Heswall Children’s Hospital, Telegraph Road, Heswall, CH60 7SL. Ringo spent a lengthy period here in the mid 1950's. A supermarket now stands on the site. 23 Macdonna Hall, 34 Banks Road, West Kirby, CH48 DRD. * The Beatles made one appearance here on 1 February 1962. Now a Hairdressers - the room where the Beatles played is still intact. 24 Trinity Road, Hoylake, CH47 2BT. The home of Cynthia, John Lennon’s first wife. Immediately opposite the house stood the church where Julian Lennon was christened. 25 Kingsmead School, Bertram Drive, Hoylake, CH47 0LL. Julian Lennon was a pupil here for a brief period in the 1970's. 26 YMCA, Birkenhead Road, Hoylake CH47 3AG. One appearance here on 24 February 1962. 27 Moreton Co-operative Hall, 366 Hoylake Road, Moreton, CH46 6DF. The Beatles played here on one occasion in 1961.The building still stands but is no longer a Co-operative. 28 Haig Hall Club, Haig Avenue, Moreton, CH46 DPP. The Quarrymen performed here in the late 1950's. Demolished in the 1970's. Private dwellings now occupy the site. 29 Apollo Roller Rink, 195 Pasture Road, Moreton, CH46 4TH. * The Beatles made one appearance here in 1962 promoted by Beatles artistTony Booth. The building is now a dancing school. * Sites with commemorative plaques.
