General Description

THE BIRTH OF SIG45 CONCEPTImagine a yacht with refined responses of a race boat, which responds predictably and sensitively to every command, as if an extension of your own being. Imagine a yacht, which will effortlessly carry you to the horizon at well over 20 knots.  Imagine a yacht with lines so elegant that it will turn heads in any

company.  Now imagine that this yacht has luxurious accommodation for six, a 45m² cockpit free of lines and steps, and can easily be sailed by a couple.  This

yacht is the SIG45, a paradigm shift in performance cruising.

Modern offshore racing multi-hulls cruise at over 30 knots. Most cruising yachts rarely exceed 10 knots. The SIG45 bridges the gap between these two worlds. The SIG45 is a unique combination of state-of-the-art racing multihull design, and the elegance, luxury and safety of a cruising yacht.  From a peerless design

team includes the architects of the planet’s fastest inshore and offshore sailing yachts, a superyacht designer, and a multiple world sailing record holder.  The Sig

45 is crafted by hand using racing boat materials and superyacht attention to detail.

The vision of Le Breton Yachts is to combine beauty, easy speed and comfort in yachts that are fast, exciting and simply enormous fun, whether for short-handed

cruising or fully crewed racing.

For those who have experienced the exhilaration of high performance sailing, the comfort of a cruising interior is enticing, but the yearning for sailing

performance never goes away.

We bring together innovations from modern racing multihull design and construction, and marry them with comfort through elegant, intelligent and highly

ergonomic design.

The resulting yachts can not only win races, but are truly comfortable, whether basking in the sun on deck, or relaxing in the inviting interior, watching the horizon

fly by from the large pilot house windows.

DESIGN TEAMHugo Le Breton, an experienced monohull and catamaran racer and cruiser, sought to integrate very best of modern racing multihull savoir-faire into genuinely

beautiful, high quality cruising yachts. In order to bring his vision to reality, Hugo brought together a phenomenally experienced design team.

 Van Peteghem Lauriot Prevost

Van Peteghem Lauriot Prevost (VPLP) is the world’s number one multihull design firm, responsible for yachts ranging from ORMA60 trimarans to luxury customcatamarans. Their 135ft trimaran, Banque Populaire, is holder of the transatlantic record (just over three days at an average of 33 knots), the 24 hour speed

record (908nm, an average speed of nearly 38knots!) and the round the world record (45 days). They also designed the incredible BMW Oracle trimaran, which

won the 33rd America’s Cup. In the SIG range, the architects have combined their experience in the very latest in racing multihull design and technology withmodern styling and comforts.

 Bjorn Johansson

Bjorn Johansson created yachts ranging from 12 metre production boats to superyachts up to 80metres (e.g. Ilona of Kylesku, Marlena and the award winning

Mirage). Bjorn’s final design was an 85m (300ft) superyacht build by oceAnco in the Netherlands. He tragically passed in January of 2008. The emphasis of hisbeautiful interior is on simple, lightweight luxury. Bjorn brought a touch of superyacht style to the interior of the SIG45, which provides a remarkable sensation of

space and quality.

Adam Voorhees

Talented designer, Adam Voorhees, was voted World Superyacht Young Designer of the year in 2010. With an innovative approach to both power and sailing

yachts, he has worked with Le Breton Yachts on styling and interior design of the SIG60 and SIG80. His work optimises the utilisation of space, particularly in the

key areas of the in the saloon and cockpit. His style focus was on keeping the design clean, contemporary and functional.

 Bruno Peyron

Legendary sailor Bruno Peyron has held the round the world record three times, most recently on his mega-cat Orange 2. He has also held the transatlantic and

24hr speed records on several occasions. As the technical consultant for the SIG45, he applied his extensive multihull racing experience to optimising the rig and

deck layout. The SIG45’s protective pilothouses and coamings, high bridgedeck clearance and its intuitive sail handling systems all owe a debt to the lessonslearned on Bruno’s giant ocean racing catamarans. Why a Performance Yacht?

·         Most importantly, her performance means that the SIG45 is a pleasure to sail in virtually all conditions – she immediately rewards crew input andresponds to gusts with smooth acceleration. You will find your crew queuing to take the helm, rather than to turn on the autopilot!

 ·         The SIG45 has many gears to select from, depending on the weather, the crew and the programme of the skipper. Sail gently with family aboard and still

exceed the speed of almost everyone around you, or really step up a gear with a racing crew.

 ·         The SIG45 regularly exceeds windspeed even in light winds: e.g.10 knots in 7 knots of wind under gennaker. This means that you can be sailing when

others are motoring.

 ·         The SIG45 can maintain average speeds well into the teens, even short-handed,. This gives a choice of vastly increasing the potential range of

day/weekend sails and longer voyages or spending more time relaxing at your destination!

 ·         The speed of the SIG45 allows it to move faster than most weather systems – a valuable safety feature.Sailing fast is fun! The absolute top speeds of the

SIG45 are truly impressive. High teens and low twenties are a regular occurrence with small crews and little effort. For example, the first SIG45 reached

21 knots in 18 knots of breeze on only her third outing. Much greater speeds are available to those looking for more.

 Handling the SIG45 with Family

·         Easy sailing for small crew - the SIG45 catamaran has been designed with simple and efficient control systems, from the high quality self aligning rudder

bearings to modern sail handling systems that make reducing sail simple and easy.

 ·         Stable and comfortable - the 8.4m (27.5ft) beam of the SIG45 makes it remarkably stable. Its righting moment of 23,000kgm compares favorably with

that of an Open60 monohull (28-32,000kgm)! This means that the boat is comfortable at sea and at anchor, with very little heel.

 ·         Space and privacy – the vast deck forms an ideal “playpen”, while the split accommodation gives privacy to kids or visitors in the starboard “guest hull”

 ·         Strength - the structure of the SIG45 is exceptionally strong, thanks to Finite Element Analysis, and very generous construction safety margins.

 ·         Safety innovations  the SIG45 can be supplied with an AntiCapsize System (ACS), as installed on Francis Joyon’s recordbreaking round the world

trimaran, IDEC. This unit detects the pitch and heel of the yacht, and releases the sails if they exceed thresholds set by the crew.

 ·         A helping hand – the SIG45 has been designed from the outset to accept upgrades such electric winches (e.g. For the main halyard or mainsail sheet) to

allow small crews to sail with even less effort.

One yacht, two philosophiesThe SIG45 is offered in two different guises; the SIG45 Sport and the SIG45 GT.

The SIG45 Sport offers a high performance sailing yacht with a carbon structure and rig. She features a lightweight raceboat-style accommodation suitable for

racing and coastal or weekend cruising.

The SIG45 GT is based on the same platform as the SIG45 Sport (though is available in full carbon) but adds a luxury interior, taller rotating wing mast,

electrical halyard winch, carbon fibre tillers, full carbon rudders (including stocks) and JP3 selfaligning bearings. The coach roof features a “floating” forward tip,which reduces waterflow onto the roof in rough conditions, and gives the roof a lighter visual aspect.

SIG45 SportThe SIG45 Sport is designed to appeal to sailors looking for amazing performance with no-frills comfort. This new model will easily reach speeds into the

mid-20s (kts) and will be a joy to sail. The SIG45 Sport boasts exactly the same outstanding naval architecture as the existing SIG45GT. As with the SIG45GT,

the new model will have a carbon fibre structure, with glass hull skins. This light, stiff structure is an essential foundation for a performance yacht.

The SIG45 Sport will feature a raceboat-style interior which will be lighter than that of the SIG45GT. The interior will feature the same three cabin, two head

layout, but the joinery will be simplified. For example, it will feature cuddies and fabric covers with zippers, instead of drawers and doors. Sail lockers and

lazarettes will not be painted, but will feature a lightweight clear coat epoxy protective coating.

The SIG45 Sport will feature a slightly shorter non-rotating carbon rig and boom. As a result of the reduced mast height, sail area is reduced to 80m2 and 35m2

for the main and jib respectively. This will slightly reduce loads on deck hardware, allowing us to lighter weight componentry. Performance will be stellar relative

to all other production sailing yachts currently on the market.

The SIG45 Sport has 1.4m waterline clearance at the main beam, extremely easily driven hulls, and an astonishingly smooth motion at sea. The combination of

adjustable high-aspect dagger boards, and slightly oversized rudders will provide fantastic control in a range of conditions.

ACCOMODATIONThe stylish interior, designed by Bjorn Johansson, is characterised by simplicity, elegance and light. It is designed to be practical at rest and at sea.

 Space and Light

The accommodation of the SIG45 catamaran is remarkably spacious, with generous headroom throughout. The space was achieved through an innovative

combination of widening chines on the inboard side of the hulls well above the waterline, and clever use of the available space.

 Multifunctional Pilothouses

The pilothouses ensure that the crew can enjoy sailing from below decks as well as on deck, with large windows providing expansive views when seated in the

saloon or navigation station. It is a remarkable experience to be comfortably sitting below in a calm and quiet dinette, and to watch the horizon move by at 18

knots.

 Gullwing Windows

The huge opening gullwing windows inboard not only provide light and ventilation, but allow food and drinks to be passed easily from the galley to the outside

dining areas on deck. When at anchor with both gullwing windows open, the entire deck, saloon and navigation station become a giant connected living space.

 Privacy

The accommodation of the SIG45 catamaran is split between two hulls. This provides privacy unheard of in a 45ft yacht. Crew can be enjoying music and

laughter in one hull, while those in the other can be obliviously sleeping, resting or even watching a movie via the sophisticated media system.

Owner’s HullThe port hull is offered as an owner’s hull, with a large double berth aft, saloon, generous galley and a spacious head with shower. Starboard Hull

The starboard hull provides two double cabins, a head with shower and a cosy and practical navigation station / off-watch area. The L-shaped sofa in the

navigation station can be used as an extra berth.

 Ventilation

Every cabin has at least two openings to ensure good airflow.

 Quality and Texture

Fittings throughout, including the LED lights, designer Italian taps and textiles are of the highest quality. The interior is constructed using a combination of

carbon fibre and wood (composite panels and veneers). Clients may select from finishes on floors, furniture units and fabrics. The floors are made of Oregon Pine,

a sustainably harvested wood species that was a mainstay of the boatbuilding industry a century ago.

HULLS & FOILSRace bred: smooth, dry and very fast

The hulls are derived directly from the latest generation of VPLP ocean racing multihulls, and in particular Groupama 2, the winner of the 2006 ORMA60

Championship. The characteristic and elegant concave profile bows are designed to simultaneously reduce drag and increase stability and flotation when the

hull is submerged well below the stationary water line  the usual state of the lee hull. The hulls are extremely slender, with a length to beam ratio of almost13:1. Beam clearance, one of the most important innovations on Orange 2, is very high on the SIG45: the mast beam is a full 1.4 metres above the waterline.

The combination of the bow design, slender, race derived hulls and high beam clearance result in a remarkably smooth motion. Under sail, the SIG45 is

extremely stable and dry, with little or no slamming.

Foils designed for performance and safety

The adjustable, high aspect daggerboards of the SIG45 are canted inwards - this provides the dual benefits of limiting the incursion of daggerboard cases into

the accommodation and generating a small amount of upward lift, which helps to reduce pitching. When raised, the draft is only 1.1m. When lowered, the 2.75m

deep boards enable excellent upwind performance.

The rudders are based on the ama rudders from the 2004 generation ORMA60s. They are slightly oversized, providing an extra reserve of security. As a result,

even when hard pressed, the boat responds immediately and without fuss.

DECK LAYOUTHuge cockpit entirely free of ropes

The SIG45 catamaran has a vast cockpit between the main and aft beams with a surface of nearly 40 square metres (400sqft). There are no sheets or other lines

crossing this area. It is protected on all sides by coamings and / or lifelines at least 65cm high, creating a great area for both families and racing crews.

 Crew Protection

The twin helmstations are situated aft, well protected by the pilothouses and coamings (inspired by Bruno Peyron’s Orange 2). Even at speeds well in excess of20 knots, the SIG45 is very dry. The aft helmstations provide excellent line of sight steering and keep the helmsman and sail trimmers close for good

communication (and social interaction!). The three Harken sail trimming winches for mainsheet, traveller and headsails are within easy reach of the helmsman.

The beautiful clear coat carbon tillers provide optimum feel, lightweight and reliability.

 Practical working areas

Halyards, main- and headsail reefing lines, mast rotation, cunningham, and daggerboards are controlled via a bank of Spinlock clutches and two Harken winches

from the winch island at the base of mast. The windlass and anchor chain are also located hear to keep weight well centred.

RIG & SAILSThe SIG45’s modern carbon rig was designed to be easily handled by a small crew, while retaining options for a racing crew to take advantage of the potential ofthe platform.

 Simple reefs and sail changes

The combination of the rotating carbon wing mast and the large high aspect ACC/ORMA60 style fully battened mainsail provides both power and a highly

efficient sail shape. With three deep reefs and lazyjacks, the yacht can be quickly and easily depowered.

The SIG45’s headsails comprise a selftacking blade jib, staysail and storm jib, plus a gennaker and asymmetric spinnaker. There are no runners or adjustablebackstays, keeping handling simple. A Code 0 for upwind work in light airs is available as an option.

The gennaker/reacher, jib, staysail and storm jib are all reefed using Karver single line furlers. This makes reefing and sail changes simple and easy. The

asymmetric spinnaker is set and doused using a sock.

 Excellent upwind performance

The SIG45’s headsails are flown from a single piece carbon bowsprit which extends forward from the main beam through the forward cross beam (which has aPBO martigale). The stiffness of this beam system helps to maintain luff tension in the jib. Luff tension and high aspect daggerboards are two of the keys to good

upwind performance on a catamaran. Another advantage of the design is that the absence of waterstays dramatically reduced the amount of spray generated.

PROPULSION SYSTEMSKeeping weight out of the ends of a yacht, particularly one with such slender hulls as the SIG45, is critical to reducing pitching motion. This in turn increases

comfort and performance. For this reason, the engines and batteries of the SIG45 are located within one metre of the longitudinal centre of gravity, below the

pilothouse sole. This also gives excellent access for maintenance. Similarly, the water and fuel tanks and the windlass and anchor chain are located in the main

beam.

The standard SIG45 comes with pressurised hot and cold water, black and grey water systems, a fully fitted galley with double sink, fridge and three burner hob as

standard.

The SIG45 is delivered with a pair of Yammer 29hp diesels, making manoeuvres in marinas very easy. Cruising speed at 2200 revs is 8 knots.

We also offer an optional diesel electric system, which provides ultra-quiet motoring, and significant fuel efficiency benefits over conventional diesels.

The system comprises a diesel generator and two direct drive electric motors. The system is as much as 15-20% more efficient than conventional diesels. This is

in part because electrical transmission losses are less than mechanical transmission losses, and in part because the diesel generator is able to run closer to its

optimum rev rate for more of the time. From a weight perspective, conventional diesels and the hybrid system are similar. However, compared with a twin diesels

and a genset, the hybrid system is considerably lighter.

CONSTRUCTIONAt Le Breton Yachts, our construction focus is on maximising quality and minimising weight.

Our yachts are hand built by skilled craftsmen, using the best available modern materials. Our experienced boat builders have a wide range of experience, from

all out racing machines to luxury cruising boats. This allows Le Breton Yachts to combine race boat quality lamination with high levels of interior finishing and

systems.

Le Breton Yachts have a highly optimised carbon fibre and epoxy resin structures, giving them remarkable stiffness. Carbon with epoxy resin has nearly ten times

the tensile strength of glass and polyester resin. This translates to a strong, stiff and safe platform, which converts the power harnessed by sails directly into speed.

ENVIRONMENTAs sailors, we derive huge pleasure from the sea. However, we have also seen and been saddened by damage to the ocean and our terrestrial environment. Inthis spirit, the objective of Le Breton Yachts is to minimise the impact to the environment both during construction and during use.

 Design

The light weight catamaran design of the SIG45 and SIG60 means that even in light winds, respectable speeds make motoring unnecessary. In stronger winds,

both yachts achieve speeds more normally associated with powerboats.

 Materials

All efforts are made to ensure that materials are purchased from sustainable sources. For example, pre-preg carbon on a foam sandwich was shown by life cycle

analysis to have some of the lowest environmental impacts of composite materials currently available on the market. (Building Research Establishment Report).

All wood products used are sourced from certified suppliers.

 Sanitation and House Systems

Lighting throughout is with ultra-efficient LEDs, which can be as much as 10 times more efficient than halogen lamps, and last many times longer.

Sanitation units are highly efficient (1.5l flush) in order to reduce the consumption of water (an environmental and weight benefit), and holding tanks are

provided to avoid marine pollution in restricted areas.
