16—TIMES, March 3, 2009 www.ballymenatimes.com www.antrimtimes.co.uk For the ‘extension’ of God’s glory - P ARISHONERS at St. Patrick’s Parish Church in Broughshane are looking forward to the ‘dedica- tion’ of a wonderful new extension to the Parish Hall. The Bishop of Connor, the Right Rev. Alan Abernethy on Sunday, 8 March, following a Confirmation Service at 6pm, will per- form this. Joining him on what promises to be a very special night, will be the Mayor of Ballymena, Cllr, Maurice Mills, the Church Wardens, members of the Select Vestry, representatives of the church organisations and of course, many parish- ioners. Labour on the new extension, which cost £226,000 to complete, got underway in June 2008 and was completed earlier this year. Explaining why the project was undertak- en, Rector of St. Patrick’s and Dean of Connor, the Very Rev. John Bond said: “While we have a splendid hall, stage and kitchen, we did not have committee or ancillary rooms. The Select Vestry had this vision for additional accommodation, but it was important to have finance in Everyone at St. Patrick’s (Broughshane) is very grateful to the builder, George Robinson and Architect, Uel Marcus for the outstanding job they have made of the renovation. Talking about what is included in the updated premises, Dean Bond added: “The new facili- ties - three meeting rooms, storage facilities, toilet, lift, comply with all regulations to meet the needs of those with disabilities. They will also provide Crèche facilities and meeting facilities for parish meetings etc.” THANKS Appropriately, the Dean also thanked his Select Vestry and Parishioners, who in their different ways have enabled the project to come to fruition. He continued: ‘The new Building which cost £226,000 will provide much needed additional facilities for our growing parish and commu- nity. It will consist of two large and one small meeting room, storage rooms, lift and toilet with provision for those with disabilities.’ He said, ‘The Select Vestry have invested a tremendous amount of time and thought in this project and have shown enormous faith, courage and determination. We thank God for his blessings, and our congregation for help- ing to provide these new and beautiful premises. We are passing on to the next generation – the young and young at heart - a building, which we pray will enrich and enhance the life of the parish and community. For the part that our people have played in all of this ‘Thank you’. Your sacrificial and gener- ous giving is deeply appreciated.” Dean Bond further stated: “This extension has not been added to be idolized but to be utilized to the Glory of God, and may all who enter its doors find their needs met, whether spiritual, recreational or just sim- ple relaxation. This new facility to our fine parish hall will, I pray, enable us to engage more fully as a Church for witness in the 21st Century. We must be a Church living our faith in action – a Church with open doors and a warm welcome, offering care and love in the community and to encour- age that community spirit which is so characteristic of Broughshane.” The Dean went on: “We look forward to the future with renewed faith, clearer vision and profound thankfulness to God who makes all things possible. “I pay tribute to all who have been involved in this project, our Builder Mr George Robinson, Architect Mr Uel Marcus, to the electricians, plumbers, and various suppliers for their excellent work. It has been a privilege to be a part of God’s plan in this parish in these early years of the 21st Century.” place with the support of the parishioners before this ven- ture was undertaken.” Above: Meeting rooms at St. Patrick's Church hall new extension.
