PARISHONERS at St. Patrick’s Parish Church inBroughshane are looking forward to the ‘dedica-tion’ of a wonderful new extension to the Parish

Hall.

The Bishop of Connor, the Right Rev. AlanAbernethy on Sunday, 8 March, followinga Confirmation Service at 6pm, will per-form this.Joining him on what promises to be avery special night, will be the Mayor ofBallymena, Cllr, Maurice Mills, theChurch Wardens, members of the SelectVestry, representatives of the churchorganisations and of course, many parish-ioners.Labour on the new extension, which cost£226,000 to complete, got underway inJune 2008 and was completed earlier thisyear.Explaining why the project was undertak-en, Rector of St. Patrick’s and Dean ofConnor, the Very Rev. John Bond said:“While we have a splendid hall, stage andkitchen, we did not have committee orancillary rooms. It will consist of two large and one smallmeeting room, storage rooms, lift and toiletwith provision for those with disabilities.’ Hesaid, ‘The Select Vestry have invested atremendous amount of time and thought inthis project and have shown enormous faith,courage and determination. We thank God forhis blessings, and our congregation for help-ing to provide these new and beautiful

premises. We arepassing on to thenext generation –

the young and young at heart - a building,which we pray will enrich and enhance thelife of the parish and community. For thepart that our people have played in all ofthis ‘Thank you’. Your sacrificial and gener-ous giving is deeply appreciated.”Dean Bond further stated: “This extensionhas not been added to be idolized but to beutilized to the Glory of God, and may allwho enter its doors find their needs met,whether spiritual, recreational or just sim-ple relaxation. This new facility to our fineparish hall will, I pray, enable us to engagemore fully as a Church for witness in the21st Century. We must be a Church livingour faith in action – a Church with opendoors and a warm welcome, offering careand love in the community and to encour-age that community spirit which is socharacteristic of Broughshane.”The Dean went on: “We look forward to thefuture with renewed faith, clearer visionand profound thankfulness to God whomakes all things possible.“I pay tribute to all who have beeninvolved in this project, our Builder MrGeorge Robinson, Architect Mr UelMarcus, to the electricians, plumbers, andvarious suppliers for their excellent work.It has been a privilege to be a part of God’splan in this parish in these early years ofthe 21st Century.”
