G U E S T I N S T R U C T O RMelanie Potter left a career in the software industry to combine her creativity & business skills to further the artof beading. Her background began with training in couture sewing at the age of 12. With an experienced eye,Melanie brings her sense of color & design to developing ways of using beads in unique, contemporary jewelry.

Queen Ester’s Jewels* Instructor: Melanie Potter $85Queen Ester’s Jewels is a piece fit for a queen with its stately and lavish tiered garlands.Swarovski fancy stones are bezeled around the necklace and sumptuously embellish the chainacross the front. Teardrop crystals are bezeled using chevron chain and hang from the front aspendant drops. The clasp is a delicate lasso catch that wraps around the last stone. The earringsmatch the main pendant drop and use a post and ear nut. Stitches used in this piece includeherringbone, peyote, chevron chain and right angle weave.

Level: Intermediate Prerequisite: Knowledge of peyote and right angle weave.

Honeycomb Lace* Instructor: Melanie Potter $85Inspired by the delicate mass of hexagonal cells in honeycombs, this design features an array ofhexagonal motifs. The chain is a lineup of hexagons. The clasp and three pendants in front aremade of hexagons within the context of a larger hexagon. Round pearls are used to embellish thecenter and edges of the pendants as well as the chain. A drop pearl dangles at the bottom ofeach pendant. A matching set of earrings is included with this design. Techniques used tocreate this piece include chevron chain, peyote, fringing and picots.

Session 1: Friday, October 14 10am-5pm

Segmentations* Instructor: Melanie Potter $50This singular chain was inspired by the beauty in nature - specifically the textured body surfaceof the millipede, a very simple insect with a spindle-shaped body of recurring segments. Adaptingthe model into a necklace creates an organic textured pattern with a luxurious quality that can beworn every day. The surface of the chain is composed of a series of bulbous chain segments thatterminate into a faceted crystal and stick pearl. Using very simple techniques of chevron chainstitch, change of bead sizes and stringing, this necklace can be easily learned because of therepetition. It can be worn long, double or triple. It can also be worn with a slip knot at the end.

Level: Intermediate Prerequisite: Knowledge of at least one beadweaving stitch.

Session 1: Thursday, October 13 6pm-9pm

The center of the cuff is rendered with an elaborate flower that floats on a round platform. The center sports a deep-set faceted Swarovski stone as the bracelet’s focal point.
