By Ned Librock - Director of Marketing By Ned Librock - Director of Marketing Congratulations and thanks to all Dynabrade employees around the world! Business conditions improved faster than expected for Dynabrade in 2010, and we were able to grow sales and improve profits. As Walter Welsch, Dynabrade CEO, stated in October 2009, “It is imperative that we all do our very best to satisfy our customers, sell as much new product as possible, and to be extremely conscious about controlling our expenses as we re- cover in 2010.” This is still the prime di- rective for our company in 2011 as we continue to see business conditions im- prove, with customers relying on you to make “The Dynabrade Difference!” All indicators point to Dynabrade gain- ing market share in most markets. We con- tinue to outpace the competition with more new products, better customer serv- ice, and superior sales efforts! Calendar year 2011 should be no ex- ception. We have a variety of new tools and accessories planned, including the expansion of our .4 hp Die Grinders and Disc Sanders, DynaPen, .7 hp Right Angle Grinders and Sanders, 2 and 3 hp Vertical Grinders, Elec- tric Grinder and Dynafile ® II, plus much more! We continue to look for new markets and additional channels of distribution around the globe. Examples include major catalog houses, electronic commerce, the jewelry and arts trade, the DIY (home hardware) market, and private labeling of our tools for selected original equip- ment manufacturers. 2011 will also see the launch of our website in Spanish and Mandarin Chi- nese, along with new Industrial and Auto- motive Aftermarket catalogs. We have every reason to believe that 2011 will be a healthy year for Dynabrade and our employees around the world. Thank you in advance for all your efforts in making sure our customers experience “The Dynabrade Difference!” Dynabrade President Walter N. The Industrial Supply Division of Affiliated Distrib-utors (A-D), the largest wholesale buying and mar-keting group in North America, recently honoredDynabrade with its “Supplier of the Year – Perform-ance” award.

This is a very prestigious honor, andevery Dynabrade employee whohelps to support our A-D distrib-utors deserves applause for theirefforts. In accepting this awardDynabrade bettered over140 other industrial sup-pliers to A-D, none ofwhich are lightweightsin the marketplace.

This is truly a proud moment in Dynabrade’s history, and we look forward to further strengthening our association with A-D in the coming year.

Dynabrade Set to UnveilSpanish Website

A-D Honors Dynabrade with“Supplier of Year” Award

The exciting evolution ofDynabrade’s website will soonmark another milestone, as weintroduce a complete Spanishtranslation of our site. This will provide a vital com-munication tool to a huge audi-ence, encompassing customers inMexico and Spain, plus Centraland South America. In thosecountries or regions Spanish willbecome the default language ofour website, with English as thesecond choice. In other regions English willremain the default language andSpanish will be optional. Thiswill be ideal for the many Span-ish-speaking regions of the USA,as well as several other multi-lingual countries.

Another great feature is that, although a viewer may nowchange languages, our regional-ized website content will remainin place. For example a customerin Spain will always see our Eu-ropean product offering and sup-port content, regardless ofviewing it in Spanish or English. This will apply to all regionalizedversions of Dynabrade’s website. This translation project was ahuge undertaking, coordinatedby Webmaster Jeff Lipski, whoworked in conjunction with Net-work Administrator Justin Ben-nett. And this is only thebeginning – Dynabrade plans tointroduce additional website lan-guages, beginning with Man-darin Chinese in 2011.

ported value is the sum of three axialmeasurements all taken at the samepoint. Previously we took single axismeasurements at different locations on

the tool, and the reported value was thehighest recorded average. Because thenew standard calls for a vector sum inplace of single axis value, the new levelstend to be much higher. Dynabrade vibration data, as well as other performance data, is availableon our website. Simply click on “Prod-uct Support” and then “Machine Spec-ifications.” With the coming release of the 2011 version, we will show thenew vibration testing results, and con-tinue to show the data from the previoustest standard (ISO 8662). Showing boththe new and old data will allow you

to compare the values between the two specifications. At this point we still have a lot of thenew testing to do, but if a customer is in

need of updated data on a specific tool, just let us know and Engineering willmake it a priority. Finally, the above information is verytechnical in nature, but some simplefacts and common sense are also rele-vant: if your body does not sense exces-sive vibration, there isn’t any. Just liketouching a hot or cold object, or lookingat a bright light, your body can sensewhat is harming it. We have tested a lotof tools in Engineering, and have yet tofind a tool that feels good while running, but also has harmful vibration levels.

Selling Dynabrade tools outside ofthe United States often presentsunique challenges. For example inorder to sell our tools within the Euro-pean Union, we are required to followspecific test standards on tool vibrationand document all results. Recently these

standards were changed, requiring Dynabrade torevamp our testing methods. The definition of vibration is “a very small, fast, and continuous shaking movement.” Adverse effectsof operating tools with high levels of vibration areaccumulated from prolonged exposure and regularuse. Naturally the effects of vibration on tool oper-ators is a major safety concern for many industries. Because vibration levels are heavily influenced bythe application and other factors, manufacturershave been reluctant to report this data, and in mostcountries there is no legal requirement to do so.However in the countries of the European Unionthere is a law that in order to sell a product it mustbear the CE mark. One requirement of this mark isto report tool vibration data, the uncertainty level ofthe measurement, and the test standard from whichthe value was determined. For Dynabrade air tools the governing documentis the “Machinery Directive,” which is produced bythe European Commission (EC). This directive isupdated on a regular basis, and when the latest ver-sion (2006/42/EC) became effective, it included asignificant change regarding vibration testing. Thiswas a concern for tool manufacturers, as the newtesting can significantly raise the reported vibrationlevel of a tool. Test standards dictate the type of equipment usedfor measurement, where and how an accelerometer

is mounted, how many oper-ators to employ in a test, andthe number of test runs byeach operator. The standardis very specific about the op-erating conditions of thetest, calling out specific workmaterials, abrasives, load

forces and arm movements. Finally it dictates howto analyze and report the data. A major change in the new standard is that vibra-tion is now a “triaxial” measurement, and the re-

Question: Do you want to get the right finish the first time?

This question will get the attention of every end-user very quickly. Eliminating re-work and achieving the right finish the first time is the goal of every operator. In order to achieve this, their pneumatic power toolsmust be running at peak efficiency.

How can our sales team verify that a tool is running at peak efficiency? Answer: By utilizing our new Performance Assurance Case!

By Steve Briggs - Product Manager

New Salesman CaseTests Tool Efficiency

There is rarely just one reason to explain why a tool is runningbelow efficiency. With this new case, our sales team can nowenter an account and assess the variables that affect the performance of their pneumatic tools. Some of the variables to be assessed are:

• Is the tool running at its rated free speed?

• What is the PSI reading at the tool?

• What is the condition of the coupler and plug?

• What is the inside diameter (I.D.) of the plug and the air line?

• What is the length of the hose, and is it leaking?

• Is lubrication taking place? What is the frequency? Is itbeing done manually or through the use of a Filter Reg-ulator Lubricator?

Contents of the Performance Assurance Case work hand-in-hand with a laminated checklist supplied with each case. This checklist addresses the bulleted items above. Among thecase contents are:

• PSI Gauge

• Tachometer

• Lubrication: Oil, Gear Oil andGear Grease with Push Guns

• Couplers & High-Flow Plugs (smaller I.D. plugs also included,to show that ours are larger)

• Sample of our lightweight, flex-ible 8 mm Air Hose

Other topics on the laminated checklist are:

• “Swirl-Free Checklist” for RandomOrbital Sanders

• Equation to calculate the cost of anair hose leak

• Size comparison of our plugs andthe most common plugs used in theindustry. (Our plugs can handle 76SCFM, while industry standardplugs handle 25 SCFM. We easilyget more air to the tool.)

• Chart to determine the propersize/length of air line to use, basedon tool’s air consumption

• Photographs of worn tool compo-nents, to show what will happen iftool is not properly maintained

With the Performance Assurance Case, our sales team can quickly identify why a customer may be having troubleachieving the desired finish. This evaluation will take only a few minutes and can be done in all end-user accounts, increasingthe value that Dynabrade already brings to the sales call and to the industry at large.

We already do more than our competition by outfitting our salesteam with demonstration tools. Couple that with the Performance Assurance Case, and we are creating anothergreat example of “The Dynabrade Difference!”
