Benjamin Davis is an American writer and Journalist living in St .

Petersburg. He grew up in a no-name town in Massachusetts

where he was more likely to hear horse sex or a pack of wolves eating

a rabbit than cars driving by or drunks fighting , as he does now. He

works as a copywriter , lifestyle-journalist , content-monkey , and social

media manager for English speaking markets. To cope with

the sterility of corporate writing , his fiction sometimes gets a little out

of hand.

Introduce us to the main characters? Who they inspired by? I could do that fairly easily over Thanksgiving dinner. The maincharacters are all based off of my friends and family. The maincharacter is more a manifestation of all of my childhood awkwardnessand immaturity, covered in fur. What should your readers be prepared for before starting thisbook? A lot of cringe-worthy awkwardness and a bit too much about the maincharacter's penis. Which I think is fair since, if you've ever been in themind of a young boy, you think about your own penis quite a lot. At leastif you grew up not worrying about being hungry. It goes Hunger, yourown penis, what boobs are, and then the rest of life sort of fucks aboutin the background. Was it awkward to share such personal life experiences mentionedin your memoir with the whole world? Well, the book is very painfully honest, but also full of lies. That isunavoidable, everyone's memoir is subjective, and all children lie. Iwouldn't be able to say which is which and the book is written to feel likea memory, full of holes. So, I hope when people read it and findanything to judge me on, they just assume that bit was one of those lies.

Do you think your book can teach young adults something? I think everyone has painful, awkward, gross, self-conscious childhoodsthat somehow magically transform into the day that you suddenly haveto start pretending you know what the fuck is going on. How could younot? You're thrown into this weird ass body that grows into a weird assfloppy thing that is supposed to work and know all of the answers to themeaning of life because soon you're going to have to explain all of thisshit to some fleshy ball of tears and hormones of your own. I hope that young adults will learn that their feelings and thoughts areimportant and that adults are often just as confused about things so, bepatient with them. They are learning, too. The art from the book incredibly fits the style of writing. Was ithard for the artist to turn your childhood into the art? I am sure it was exceptionally difficult, much harder than my job of justvomiting my childhood onto the world. The book was written a long time ago. Why have you decided tostart your publishing experience with this one? To be honest, it was the most put together of my half-baked ideas whenNada Blank Press approached Nikita and I about working on a largerpiece. I thought it would be my 4th or 5th published work.

Is there going to be a sequel with the main character's adultexperience? Yes. It will pick up around where this book left off. It will focus on theidiocy of "manhood" and the slow spiraling stairway to fuck-knows-where that America finds itself falling down these days. What is your favorite place to write at? I've never really had one. I sometimes write on hard stools in loudplaces or hungover in bed. Have some of the friends from your childhood mentioned in thisbook reached out to you? Not really. Most of my friends who are in it haven't read it. The one whodid said, "well, that was a lot more about your penis I didn't need toknow," and sort of left it there. I thought that was fair. Who is the queen of FU? You'll have to read the next book. Or the one after that. What was the most difficult thing about publishing your first book? Everything.
