More power, lower costs, lower emissions, the most powerful conventional CVT tractoron the market. Now it’s possible

Impossible is a thing of the past. The fl agship T8 tractor range has been improved;

delivering more horsepower and including advanced options like the super-wide IntelliView™ IV colour touchscreen, IntelliSteer® auto guidance option, fully integrated front linkage and PTO, a wide tyre offering and a lift capacity increased up to 10%, while reducing fuel consumption and operating costs. Now upgraded with the Auto Command™, continuously variable transmission, all six T8 tractor models provide outputs ranging from 273 hp to 419 hp and offer seamless power application, precision speed control, cruise functionality and easy manoeuvrability. “The T8 Auto Command will quickly become the tractor of choice and the ultimate working tool for large-scale cash crop farmers, hay and forage contractors, as well as large dairies and transport intensive operations,”says to Luca Mainardi,Head of Tractor and Telehandler Product Management. “With a longer wheelbase and even more power on tap, the T8 Auto Command™ has impressive all-round performance. Furthermore, it perfectly complements the existing full powershift model range.”In short, the T8 has it all;the most powerful conventional CVT tractor on the market grants maximum on-site productivity and helps you make impossible jobs possible.

Commandingthe FieldsIt’s now possible to command the fi elds. The New Holland T8 series has been enhanced through the introduction of the renowned Auto

Command™ continuously variable transmission. Thanks to this, the new range-topping T8.420 develops a maximum of 419 hp with Engine Power Management, making it the world’s most powerful continuously variable transmission conventional tractor. Through the implementation of New Holland engineering, the Auto Command™ transmission has been tailored to fi t the dimensions and usage profi le ofthe T8 range perfectly. This innovative transmission features seamless power application, employs intuitive force-based logic and is controlled via the ergonomic CommandGrip™ handle, which features all of the transmission functions - making it possible to exert maximum power while minimising operator exertion. Full 52hp of Engine Power Management is available to supply the extra boost needed to make impossible jobs possible. Plus, when combined with its impressive transient response,it maintains high

performance and eliminates slowdowns even in the most challenging conditions.

The Right Speed for All NeedsThe Auto Command™ transmission has four operational modes - Auto, Cruise, PTO and Manual - to ensure ensure superb fl exibility fi t for the task and also improve fuel effi ciency. When working in Auto mode, for example, simply select the desired working speed and Auto Command adjusts the engine speed and transmission settings for the most effi cient performance. Operating with four direct drive points, which have been precision engineered to accurately match the four most frequently used operating speeds, the Auto Command™ transmission guarantees 100% mechanical effi ciency.

Greater power transfer means greater productivity and the right operating speed (as low as 30m/h) whatever the task: planting, tillage, baling or road transport. Plus, speed can be adjusted precisely, within 0.01km/h.The T8 is available in 40kph ECO and 50kph ECO options allowing top speeds at lower engine speeds,as well as a reduction in fuel consumption - ideal for businesses that carry out extensive transport activities. In addition to smooth speed management, it offers unsurpassed operating comfort as the only transmission available which transmits zero vibrations and jerks to the operator. The active StartStop hill holder function further increases driving safety as the transmission prevents the tractor from creeping forwards or backwards while stationary.

Improved Stability and TractionAll T8 Auto Command™ models benefi t from a ground-breaking design with an extended wheelbase that provides better stability and traction. For example, the new T8.420 has been fi tted with the new heavy-duty 5" bar axle, stretching the wheelbase by a full 100mm for greater balance during high-speed transport and even better heavy draft performance.Yet T8 tractors still deliver exceptional turn performance and outstanding agility. This is the advantage provided by the sculpted engine and front axle support casting that allows a 55° turning angle.

Extensive Ballasting OptionsAdvanced New Holland solutions take traction a step further. The TerraLock™ traction management system guarantees that 100% of power is transferred to the ground. Terraglide™ front axle suspension improves traction and, by counteracting bouncing and lifting rear-mounted equipment, offers a higher level of operator comfort.

Effi ciency Is KeyIncreased power, but also decreased costs and emissions; it’s possible. The six models that comprise the T8 Auto Command™ series are powered by effi cient ECOBlue™ SCR Cursor 9 engines developed in collaboration with FPT Industrial. They ensure Tier 4A emissions compliance in addition to a 10% reduction in fuel costs and an overall decrease in operating costsof up to 17%.

Though it seems impossible, New Holland products can be even better when combined with innovative options. The super-wide IntelliView™ IV colour touchscreen enables exact guidance control - and is necessary when using advanced New Holland PLM® solutions designed to increase yields, control input costs and boost productivity. It’s even possible to track the movements of your T8 and analyse operating parameters in real time though PLM® Connect. The completely integrated IntelliSteer® auto guidance option allows hands-free precision farming. Plus, with RTK correction signals, you can farm to within 2.5cm from one season to the next.Agricultural fl exibility is best when the T8 Auto Command™ is paired with the optional, fully integrated, factory fi tted front linkage and PTO.All T8 Auto Command™ models can come with 2.15m diameter rear tyres. For applications where low ground pressure or fl oatation is important, 900/60R42 rear tyres can be ordered. For row-crop use, 480/95R50 tyres grant a longer footprint which generates better traction; these are the largest rear tyres currently available on the market for any high-powered tractor.

Ready for Change?

Prepare yourself fora big change. The all-new Roll-Belt™ variable chamber round balers by New Holland are set to revolutionise on-the-job productivity. The proof is in the numbers; extensive testing shows that they offer up to 20% more capacity and as much as 5% greater bale density

Having put morethan 225,000 variable chamber

round balers in motionover the years,New Holland is considered a pioneer in round baling technology and has earned the trust of farmers worldwide due to their unrivalled performance. Recently the brand has introduced the latest development in baling -the new Roll-Belt™ variable chamber round balers - which evolved from the BR7000. In comparison, this next generation delivers as muchas 20% more capacityand produces a 5% increase in bale density. These are numbers that signify drastic changefor large livestock

operations as well as straw, hay and forage contractors.“Available in 1.5 and 1.8 metre bale diameters, the Roll-Belt™ baler enables operations to choose the baler that fits their needs, plus the standard rotor SuperFeed and professional CropCutter variants enable tailored baling,” said Bob Hatz, Head of Hay and Forage Product Management. “Additionally, the all-new pick-up, dual density system and endless belt design deliver significant productivity gains.”

Increased Capacity with the NewPick-Up

Redesigned fromthe ground up, the new pick-up considerably reduces the time it takesto bale silage or completein-fi eld work. With up to 20% more capacity, it will changeyour perspective on productivity. farmers and contractors have as standard super wide 2.3 metre pickup suitable for the widestof swaths. The heavy-duty,fi ve solid tine bar pick-up, with reinforced rubber tines that are 10% more rigid laterally and last fi vetimes longer, is greatfor silage & straw operations asit maintains top performance in unevenand rocky terrain.

Benefi t from Effi cientand Uniform FeedingBy adding the new feed assist roll, which is located behind the roller wind guard, it’s easy to maintain uniform feeding while working with varyingswath widths. This optional solution features two overshot and two undershot counter-rotating augers. The augers transfer the crop from the pick-up to the rotor and merge the fl owof the crop at the sametime to ensure that it matches the exact widthof the bale chamber.Further customise your Roll-Belt™ variable chamber

With net-only models, there is now space to conveniently store up to an extra roll of netin the rear of the baler. Additionally the second roll can be stored directly above the active roll. The patented duckbill net wrapping system requires only a limited amount of power from the in-cab connection and has been repositioned even closerto the bale to wrap the bale even faster.

WrappingFlexibilityand Performance

round baler to improve fl exibility. You can choose the SuperFeed™ standard rotor option with New Holland’s renowned ‘W’ pattern fi ngers, where the 455mm diameter rotor maintains high throughput independently of the type of crop. The CropCutter™ variant on the other hand, rolls out the densest bales, with 15 integrated knives for fi ne-chopping performance.

Redefi ne DensityAnother big change is the addition of a second hydraulic density cylinder. The advantage of the optional dual density system on the Roll-Belt™ range is an increase in density of up to 5% when compared to the BR7000. It accomplishes this by the addition of an

extra density cylinder on the opposite side of the standard density cylinder, these cylinders control the rateof belt expansion. By limiting belt expansion when pressure reaches a pre-set level, it produces solid, uniformly densebales that are saferand easier to handle. This is perfect for livestock farmers that must transport bales, plus it facilitates fermentation for enhanced nutritional value of silage.

Change the Standards of ProductivityWho has time to deal with clogged balers duringthe busy seasons?New Holland has listenedto farmers and come up with an innovative solution.

With DropFloor technology, you can help prevent blockages and secure your productivity levels. Controlled fromthe cab, the fl oor can simply be lowered to provide additional space in the feeding zone when large wedges of crop blockthe rotor. The clog is averted and baling continues according to schedule.Additionally, the belts’ texture has been modifi ed specifi cally to assist cleaning and prevent clogs for effi cient bale formation. The Roll-Belt™ baler features four 273 mm wide belts; the increased belt stability provided ensures a large contact area withthe crop to improve bale formation, limit costlylosses and improvetracking performance.Constructed usingadvanced endless belt technology, these beltsare much strongerand eliminate stretchingand the need for joints.

Technology Changes It AllThe advanced Bale Command™ Plus II monitor is standard, and enables operators to memoriseup to 20 individual balecount records.,The Roll-Belt™ baleris now fully ISOBUS compatible as an option,so the operators can implement the existing monitor in their tractor, state-of-the-art IntelliView™ III colour touchscreen.

Safety Above AllWhen redesigningthe Roll-Belt™ variable chamber round balers, operator safety was front of mind. It is the only baler range in the industry that features an electric power safety cut- off switch. Located on the baler’s drawbar, it cuts offall power to the balerto ensure it is fully deactivated before changing the net or checking the pick-up for blockages. Also, the distinctive single-piece side shields which are positioned on self-supporting gas struts, open wide to facilitate access for maintenance work and can only be opened usinga specifi c tool.

New Holland is proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the gates fi rst openingto its factory in Basildon. More than 1.6 million British-made tractors have rolled offthe production line ready for work around the four corners of the world

The manufacturing numbers of the site’s 2014 Golden Jubilee are

as remarkable as the factory itself – which now contains a production line stretching over two kilometres in a facility covering 40 hectares.One-thousand employees help to produce an average of 23,000 tractors each year, using 600 tonnes of material each day. To put the years into perspective, enough tractors have been made for every living person in Northern Ireland to have one each,or to provide every large farm in the United Kingdom witha fl eet of 43 packed intotheir yard.It shows what has been achieved since 1964 whenthe very fi rst of the streamof tractors to have beenbuilt there started its engineto begin life as the dependable work horseof its proud owner. Then it was the Ford 3000, 4000 and 5000 series. Now, however, Basildon is better known as the home of the powerful and popular T6 and T7 ranges which fl y the fl ag for British manufacturing not only in the UK and Ireland but also in the 120 countries worldwide where they are exported. In between, the factory has been the scene of major advances: the fi rst turbocharged Ford 7000 tractor in 1971, the Ford 10 series becomes the fi rst truly modern tractor in 1982, and in 1998 the New Holland TS is

the debut Tier 1 tractor. The beating heart of Basildon is indeed its bustling production line. But it is New Holland’s technological development that is the brain behind putting together state-of-the-art tractors that stay at the cutting edge of agricultural operations.Examples are the T6.160 Auto Command™, which on top of its next generation transmission bristles with features such as the industry-leading Horizon™ Cab, super-effi cient ECOBlue™ SCR engines and ergonomic SideWinder™ II armrests. The list goes on of advances that simply make customers’ lives easier: the T7.270 Auto Command is fi tted with the CommandGrip™ multi-function handle and highly accurate IntelliSteer™ auto guidance, to name just two more and boasts the best power-to-weight ratio in the sector. The site has grown in prestige with the addition of a gleaming new Customer Centre in 2011.Recent VIP visits have included British Prime Minister David Cameron and even the Olympic torch passed by on its way to the London Games. And as the landmark dates have come and gone, Basildon has responded with rare collections of specially designed tractors: emblazoned with the

Union Flag for the Queen’s diamond jubilee, and a bronze makeover for a T7.270 to celebrate securing the coveted Bronze World Class Manufacturing award. Special editions have even included a one-off gravity-powered tractor go-kart created by apprentices to compete in a madcap Red Bull race. And this year Golden Jubilee celebratory Auto Command models were fi rst launched and seen at LAMMA, catching the eye with metallic dark blue paint, gold insignias and bonnet – and a unique 50-year Basildon logo.Over fi ve decades a lot has been achieved at Basildon. Indeed, the heights that have been scaled by the factory and its team just in the fi rst decades of the 21st century shows the future of tractor-manufacturing in the UK remains as bright as ever. The impressive showroom has been New Holland’s latest addition and refl ects a signifi cant fi nancial investment in the plant. A selection of machinery manufactured in New Holland plants around the world is on display in the showroom, while the Innovation Area features the modern technology of the machines produced specifi cally at the Basildon facility. We encourage all machinery lovers to visit the plant – we look forward to welcoming you!

“It’s the ability to measurethat justifi es the investmentin precision farming equipmentfor me as a contractor.”

- Nick Ford, Ford Agricultural Contractors

Here’s what farmers and contractors in the UK have to say about New Holland Precision Land Management

PLM is Fundamental for Contractors Contractors have as much to gain as farmers from precision farming equipment, but for different reasons; that’s whatthe owner of a central England business, which has investedin a New Holland Precision Land Management package, believes

For farm contractors, area mapping and automatic steering

systems have become indispensable tools in providing an economic, fair and accurate service, according to Nick Ford, who owns and runs Wiltshire-based Ford Agricultural Contractors. That, he says, means both he and his customers

benefi t from the investment.“Investing in precision farming equipment had interested me for a while. What really convinced me was when I talked to my local farm business consultant and the precision farming specialist from my local dealer about what reduced overlaps could save me in terms of fuel and time. Plus, we also

investigated the government grants available under the Farming and Forestry Improvement Scheme, which we found could help signifi cantly in coveringthe equipment cost.”Nick worked with his dealer to determine the system that would suit his spreadof work, choosing a 2.5 cm-accuracy RTK system operated through an FM750 touchscreen display and EZ-PilotTM steering system. The system was fi tted last year into his primary tractor, a New Holland T6080 Power Command, which is run alongside a T6070, TM165 and TM140.“Our dealer’s PLM specialist set the system up and was able to help with any issues we had as we began implementing it. We were able to make full use of auto-steering in time for spring drilling and noticed the difference almost immediately.”

Precision Drilling“Well-matched drilling is an operator art, but not having to worry about it means the driver can concentrate on other things, such as forward speed and the performance of the drill,” Nick explains. “Especially for combinable crop drilling, and particularly for sowing maize, it simply makes the job so much easier on the operator.” PLM also minimises overlaps and facilitates matching bouts

when drilling, “which saves me both time and money, and it also savesmy customers in seedand spray costs.”

Accurate EstimatesAs the seasons change, so should job estimates.“If they’ve not been recently measured, fi eld sizes can be different to the old fi gures farmers have been working from – hedges have often grown wider to encroach on fi elds, hedge or fence lines have changed, or fi elds have been split, for example. It could be quite possible to be 5-10% out on fi eld area and that’s a lot of additional time and fuel,” says Nick. The PLM system, however, “allows me to ensure that fi eld work areas are calculated precisely, so that my charges are accurate and fair.”“For every task I can print off the job data and supply it with the invoice to the customer, showing him exactly what has been done. It’s the ability to measure that justifi es the investment in precision farming equipment for me as a contractor.”

The Auto-Steering Advantage“The effect that the auto-steering system has on tractor operating quickly became clear,” says Nick, who employs four staff, with another hired in summer.

out as a contractor, such as mowing. “I can work faster – up to about 15 km/h – without having to concentrate on keeping the mowers full, and being able to measure the fi eld and mark it out from the initial headland round is really advantageous in terms of time, fuel and accuracy,as it means the landcan be cut in the most effi cient way,” he says.In addition to 600ha of fi rst and second-cut grass silage chopped with a New Holland FX40, Nick uses twoNew Holland BB big balers to make 25-30,000 big square bales annually, as well as 5,000 round ones with a New Holland BR740. In all of these applications, he has found the auto-steering system helpful; “even where the customer has mowed the grass himself, and then asked me to row up and bale or chop for silage, I can work out the fi eld area by simply entering my rake width, and the same holds true whereI am buying hay or strawin the swath.”

“With auto-steer I can increase drilling speed, although drilling depth accuracy is also a priority so, while I could probably go faster still, I prefer to keep forward speed reasonable and ensure the job is done well. Auto-steering is even useful in less complicated jobs like fl at rolling and harrowing of grassland, where it makes matching bouts easier and takes some of the monotony outof the job.” The PLM and auto-steering systems are totally reliable as well, staying on track even on the rare occasion that the signal is lost, and it is a time-saving tool in the fi elds. “As a contractor, I’m often on the phone with customers, and I can make and answer calls easily while the auto-steer does its job,” Nick explains.

Extra Applications The same bout-matching benefi ts have proved themselves in other applications Nick carries

“I wouldn’t consider running a combine or large tractor without it.”

- Anthony Rankin, Rankin Farms Ltd

Combinable crop farmer Anthony Rankin was looking

for a package thatcan be adapted to enhance every task - from helping with harvestingto providing the ultimatein drilling accuracy. That’s why he choseto invest in New Holland Precision LandManagement technology.Having run an auto-steering system for three years,he now says“I wouldn’t consider running a combine orlarge tractor without it,”says Anthony.Rankin Farms Ltd is based

Auto-Steering Innovation for FarmingFor one farm in the east of England, investing inthe technology for automatic vehicle steering has beena natural extension of its early moves into precision farming

in Essex and it beganusing precision farming six years ago. “When I fi rst looked at investing in a precision system, the cost was high, but the benefi ts were easy to see.Since then, the prices have continued to come down and, by the time we reconsidered the technology, I felt the benefi ts outweighedthe costs. Now, I knowthat cost is justifi ed.”The latest developmentto revolutionise workon the Rankin Farm, has been the addition of automated steering systems.

Auto-Steering Ease In 2010, the farm decided to invest in an Autopilot™ system with an FM-1000 display to boost effi ciency and reduce operator fatigue when its largest tractor,a New Holland T8050,was used for tillage and drilling tasks. Meanwhile, the T6090 was equipped with a full auto-steer package that shares a terminal and monitor with the 7.32m CR9070 combine, optimising the tractor’s use of the system for cereal drilling. Today, cultivation, drilling and combining

operations are key activities for Rankin Farms and the benefi ts of the auto-steering system have been undeniable. Anthony, who runs his business with two staff, plus an additional worker in the summer, says he would consider auto steering now an essential component of a large tractor. “The main benefi t of auto-steering for almost every job, whether on the tractor or the combine, is the reduction in driver fatigue,” explains Anthony. “On the combine, for example, auto-steeringis fantastic,” he says.“I think a combine driver

probably spends around three-quarters of his time concentrating on steering, and it makes such a difference to let the machine steer itself so that I can focus on settings and performance. By not having to constantly concentrate on keeping the header full, it makes the whole job much less tiring.”Matching bouts has been made much simpler with Autopilot™ and the FM-1000 display, making the job of drilling much easier on the operator, and virtually eliminating any risk of overlaps and misses.“When working long hours at harvest time it’s worth a lot, particularly on tasks such as drilling because marking equal and even bouts is much simpler. It has also enabled usto avoid repeating tramlines,

limiting the amount ofland that’s traffi cked,”explains Anthony.

The Futureof Farming “Now, I don’t think that I would even consider buying a big tractor that wasn’t auto-steer ready,” Anthony says. “Our T6070 is the next one of our tractors that will come due for renewal, and I think that it will certainly be replaced with a machine equipped like our othertwo tractors.” “In general, I’m sure that in the near future the second-hand value of high-horsepower tractors thatare equipped as suchwill be notably higherthan those without.”

The ancient practice of agricultureThe development of humanity has always been intrinsically linked with the agricultural practices that made it possible for early communities to live in fixed settlements and thus developthe techniques, skills and knowledge essential for the fl owering of civilisation

The SumeriansThe Sumerians were the fi rst sedentary population in the world. Agriculture was the foundation of their economy. The earliest experiments with crop cultivation in the Middle East date back to at least 7,000 BC, but it was not untilthe arrival of the Sumerians, around 3,500 BC,that Mesopotamian agriculture made its giant leap forward, thanks to this people’s ability to create irrigation systems. Fields were planted near canals, which were built above ground level so that their water could fl ow down naturallyto the cultivated land.Fields were laid out in rectangular shapes, with the short side adjacent to the canal and ploughed and irrigated parallel to the long side: this made it possible to irrigate larger areas. The areas closest to the canals were planted with onions, garlic, vegetables, date trees and olive trees, while the less irrigated areas furthest from the canals, were used for growing cereals: barley, wheat and spelt.

The ancient EgyptiansThe ancient Egyptian economy was based predominantly on agriculture and the cultivation of the land close to the River Nile. From July to October this great river overfl owed its banks and fl ooded the surrounding plains, depositing rich silt, a dark mud that made the soil extremely fertile. When the fl ood waters retreated, farmers could sow their seeds and be rewarded by abundant crops. In order to take full advantage of the fl ooding season, the Egyptians built complex systems of canals, dams and reservoirs. But to irrigate their crops they also used various tools: water could be transported in special jars fi xed to long poles, making it easier to transport on their shoulders, and for raising water from one level to another, they used an implement called a “Shadoof”. This was a simple but ingenious instrument consisting of two vertical poles anchored to the ground and joined at the top bya horizontal pole, supporting a long lever-pole with a stone counterweight attached to one end and a rope and bucket to the other. Apparently, a single operator, working this device all day long, could collect and raise roughly3,000 litres of water.

The EtruscansThe Etruscans developed the science of measuringthe area of cultivated land, using a special instrument calleda “groma”. This consisted of two equal arms crossing one another at right-angles, with a plumb-line hangingfrom each of the four extremities, supported horizontallyby a vertical pole. The groma was used to delineate precise right-angled lines on the ground to establish boundaries. Etruscan priests had the duty of establishing the boundaries between plots of land with different owners, with the warning that anyone found moving a single stone or boundary marker, would be put to death. The Etruscans were also well acquainted with allthe irrigation techniques developed in Egypt, Mesopotamia and Greece. They were experts in building canals and dams for irrigating dry land, and also in reclaiming swamplands using drainage systems.

World population and foodThe world’s population is growing at unprecedented rates, and it seems that by mid-century it will reach the 9 billion mark. This will probably create serious food supply problems. Such problems already exist, but are mainly caused by the unequal distribution of available resources

The number of people on earth in 2050.

Maize, rice, cereals and soya are the basicfoodstuffs for the world’s population, providing43% of globally consumed calories and 40%of nutritional protein.

To satisfy the rising demand for food, by the middle of this century the world’s agricultural production of maize, rice, cereals and soya will have to rise by between 60% and 110% in relation to the amounts harvested in 2005. At current growth rates, however, global production may only rise by between 38% and 67% over the coming 40 years. This would leave two possible options for dealing with the problem: increasing the totalcultivated area and increasing productivity.

This is the number of people in the world who areoverweight, with 500 million people technically classifi ed as obese.

Every year, despite managing to consume more than the planet is capable of regenerating, we waste no less than one third of all food products: to be precise, 1.3 billion tons of food.If we fail to adopt a more sustainable style ofconsumption, by 2050 it will take three planetEarths to satisfy our food needs.

This was the number of people suffering from serious malnutrition in 2012 - the equivalent of 12.5% of the world’s population. This statisticcovers only a small part of the billions of inadequately nourished people who suffer from various health problems as a result.

True. True. False. Traditionally roses were used as ‘sentinels’, signalling the arrival of diseases, parasites or mineral defi ciencies. All of these threats, are in fact, manifested immediately in rose plants and a few days later in vines, thus giving wine-makers time to take preventive action. Nowadays, scientifi c analytic systems exist for this purpose, but the roses remain as a tribute to tradition.

Some stories seem incredible, but are actually true. Other stories are simply inventions. Can you tell which is which?

The purple carrot from the Middle EastCarrot growing began in Afghanistan about 5000 years ago and the fi rst specimens produced in that region were purple. In the late Middle Ages, the Arabs introduced carrots to the Mediterranean area. It was the Dutch who made them orange, around 1720:they decided to change the colour in honourof the reigning dynasty, the House of Orange. The transformation came about gradually in Dutch fi elds by selection. In the space of a few years an orange carrot was obtained.

1Tomatoes as decorative plantsThe tomato plant reached Europe after the discovery of the Americas, but until the midseventeenth century it was used exclusively as a decorative plant. It was in fact believedto be poisonous, given its resemblance to another plant with a similar appearance. And so the wealthy, who were the only people who could afford to own them, planted them in ornate vases and used themto embellish windows and courtyards.Only much later did the tomato begin to be usedas a fruit with curative properties, and even lateras a culinary ingredient.

Roses in vineyardsOne frequently sees rose plants at the end of lines of vine plants. This is above all a French tradition, but it has spread to many wine-growing areas. These roses are there mainly for decorative purposes: thanks to them the vineyard landscape takes on aneven more romantically picturesque appearance. But the roses also infl uence the bouquet of wine, that’s to say the aromatic complex created by the synergy of many molecules which endows wines with their unique characteristics.
