FORWARD

2015 has been a year of progress, development and blessing for New Hope. We are excited about the men that have come through the programme. Men whose lives have been completely changed, with relationships and self-respect restored, back in the community and contributing to society. New Hope is making a difference in lives that had no hope a short time ago. Our focus in the coming months is on provision of

aftercare facilities, extending the accommodation at the centre and raising funding for staff. 2015 was a great year because so many helped. With everyone doing what they can this year it will be another great year. We give all the glory to God who made all of it possible! Pastor David O Gorman Chairman

MANAGERS’ REPORT 2015 was an amazing year at New Hope Residential Centre, it was a year that saw huge changes

in our service and an increase in bed capacity. At the end of 2014 NHRC was informed that the

landlord we have been renting our building from was having to sell the property. As NHRC has

never had funding, the prospect of buying the property looked extremely unlikely bar a miracle

happening and happen it did. We decided to write to our friends and supporters and ask if they

would consider helping us fund the purchase of the property.

The majority of 2015 was spent with accomplishing the

task of acquiring the funds to make the purchase. Our

friends and supporters were extremely generous and the

funding for the remainder was acquired with help from

Clann Credo.

Once again the challenge for NHRC is the lack of core

funding, each month it becomes more difficult to retain

our staff as most are unpaid. The current unpaid staff

are highly skilled and dedicated to supporting those who

are most vulnerable, disadvantaged, excluded and

marginalised in our society. If it was not for the staff at

NHRC giving their time we would cease to be able to

maintain our service. It is with the utmost urgency that

we secure core funding for the existing center so we can then look to expansion.

NHRC was also successful in being granted CAS funding to purchase two 3-bedroom step down

houses in the Tallaght area. This will greatly enhance our service, giving those who are in need of

housing after their time at NHRC, the option of drug and alcohol free housing. This is an

extremely important step in the ongoing recovery of our service users as housing for single men

in the current climate is difficult to acquire. The first of these units will open in Feb 2016 and

hope to have the second unit available in mid-

2016.

I was honoured to be awarded the “Carer of the

Year” at the “Tallaght Person of the Year Awards

2015” for my work at New Hope, I was surprised

but honored that the work at NHRC is being

recognized. The work at NHRC is a team effort

and it is my privileged to work as a part of such

dedicated team.

PG. 5

Perhaps the most noticeable difference that we have seen in service users seeking

to access New Hope has been those with their main addiction being Weed. NHRC

would have normally had its clients on arrival testing positive for a number of

drugs mainly opiates, alcohol and weed would be an issue but not the main drug

of choice. In the past year 25% of all those seeking a place attended for life

controlling issues with weed and the age demographic was younger.

Since 2007 NHRC has provided supported housing for those with addiction or life

controlling problems. We have always sought to make our service available to

individuals from any location, religion or race in 2015 we had clients from 13

different Counties in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and the Traveler

Community.

On a final note I had the

privilege of going to the

wedding of one of our

graduates William Doyle (6

year’s addiction free now)

married his bride Elizabeth, at

their wedding in America. Two

other graduates that finished

the course at NHRC 8 years

ago, both Paul’s are doing wonderfully well. Both are in full

time employment and home owners. When you see lasting changed lives the impact is clear, you

know New Hope is making a difference. Thank-you for your continued support, we simply

couldn’t do it without you. The Bible says Rom 5:20; But where sin abounded, grace did much

more abound: At NHRC we know that God is able to change any person from the inside out, while

most services focus upon the external, God always starts with the heart(thinking) and when that

changes so does the choices that the individual makes.

OUR CORE VALUES

The New Hope sees our core Christian values as essential to thrive in a changing world. These

values are beliefs that have proven themselves in the past, guide us in the present and will lead

us into the future.

We believe in putting the well-being of the people we serve first and that these core value guides

our behaviour and decisions in everything we do. Our core values are more than a moral

compass. “The Bible says in Jas 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this,

To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction. For us at New Hope we believe that it is our

responsibility to reach out to those who are hurting and marginalised in our society and show

them practical Christian love”. We believe our core values are a formula for being an agent of

change in our community.

New Hope Core Values

To strive for excellence

To demonstrate unconditional love through a gentle, kind and friendly manner

To inspire, encourage and give hope to those we serve

To show honesty, integrity and accountability at all times

To display courage in adversity

To constantly promote an environment of trust

To maintain an atmosphere that promotes creativity and innovation

Respect co-workers, volunteers, clients and New Hope as an agency

Be good stewards of resources, time, money and the environment

New Hope Residential Centre is a registered charity Chy 20631 and an Approved Housing Body

providing a transitionary residential facility for individuals overcoming addiction from a

background of Homelessness or at risk of Homelessness. At the end of the 2015 year, New Hope

had 15 non-self-contained units of accommodation, contained within one property in the South

Dublin Local Authority area. The property has been purchased during 2015 as a result of a major

fundraising drive which provided €107,000. €80,000 went toward the deposit for the mortgage

from Clann Credo and €27,000 went toward essential upgrades to the centre.

the Charter of Commitments for the Department of Environments Regulatory Code for the

Governance of Approved Housing Bodies in Ireland. We secured our first Community Assistance

Scheme (CAS) step down houses in the community with three men already living in one of them.
