Integrated Databases 1
The user can
• see tables from more than one database in the Viewer tree
• search multiple databases
• create static links between databases
This is controlled using profiles created in MI:Admin (more on these later)
Integrated Databases 2
Homepages
Each individual database keeps its homepage
A separate homepage can be created for each profile.
Text Search
A text search will find records with matches across all the databases viewable within the selected profile.
The search results can be filtered by any table within any database that contains search results.
Static Links
Th b t d f t bl i d t b t t bl i thThese can be created from a table in one database to a table in another database

Profiles
A single view across your GRANTA MI databases. Profiles can be configured so that users get a view that is relevant to them.
When upgrading to version 5, some profiles will be set up automatically. These include:These include:
A profile for each individual database (unless the database contains existing profiles)A profile for admin and grant users which shows all databases If the database has existing profiles, e.g. RSDB, these are maintained
Some things to note:• If you don’t want your users to see a specific combination of databases on your
server, you will need to set up some custom profiles.• A user is not automatically directed to a profile This can be implemented usingA user is not automatically directed to a profile. This can be implemented using
an application homepage with links (e.g. Designers click here, Analysts click here).
• A user can select any profile set up by the administrators, as long as the profile contains at least one table that the user has access rights to.

gRRappler
MI now incorporates the gRRappler tool (originally developed at Rolls-Royce)
Template enhancements—Excel import/export templates can now be created automatically based on the database schema.y
Data manipulation tools—for easy data import, export, and round-tripping between MI and Excel.

Data Synch
Allows organizations to host multiple instances of MI and keep the data synchronised between these instances.
This capability has been developed and released, but is not a mature technology and requires some manual steps to set up. If customers require this functionality within this release, please speak to your account manager about providing consultancy to help you to set this up.
MI:Substitute
Starting with a given reference material, find candidate substitutematerials – and understand the implications of switching to them.
8
Example: Steel equivalence
What? Find the closest grade to a given steel in a different country / standards bodyy
Why? • Need to manufacture globally
• Need to translate a legacy design into a locally sourceableset of materials
Challenges • No two steel standards are identical
• Need to get as close a match as possible to save time and money in evaluating equivalent grades
Steel equivalence workflow
2. Identify which standards body you want your equivalent to come from:
1. Find current grade by name or composition
3. What properties do we want to match?
4. Compare candidates and identify potential differences or missing data
9
Company material substitution workflow
1. Materials experts identify and approve substitutes
5. Designers receive clear guidance on datasheets
3. Approved substitutes are li k d t i i l t i l
2. Original material is flagged e.g. ‘Do Not Use’
linked to original material
3. Any conditions, e.g. on suitability for particular applications, are assigned to the link
6. Information can also be made available directly in CAD/PLM through plugin / API technology

MI:Materials Gateway and APIUpdated versions of the GRANTA MI:Materials Gateway
Pro/ENGINEER
Abaqus/CAE
• Improved user interface and performance.
• Pro/ENGINEER: GRANTA MI:Restricted Substances reporting capabilities.
New Application Programming Interface (API) available
• Enables you to integrate in-house systems and data with your GRANTA MI installation.
• Includes an easier-to-use Software Development Kit (SDK), with documentation, revised sample code, and sample Visual Studio projects.

GRANTA MI:Restricted Substances
•A User Interface & new capabilities for managing M&P specifications
• Importers for gathering supplier declarations
• Hardcoded searches for materials at risk of phase-outHardcoded searches for materials at risk of phase out
• Tools to import Materials and Process specifications and understand their legislative impact
•Fall back links: employ generic ‘where used’ data where supplier data is missing or unavailable
•Excel-based tool for specifying BoM’s by selecting materials and processes directly from the GRANTA MI database

Excel add-in allows the user to t bill f t i l l ticreate a bill of materials, selecting
materials and processes from your MI database
This BoM can then be used to generate restricted substance reports, such as a REACH article 33 report or…

Eco Assessment Tool
You can run an Eco Audit report to identify which phase of theidentify which phase of the product lifecycle is contributing most to the overall impacts
