always need to stay along the path of God, because when you stray, it can be hard to get back on it and it can turn into a

snowball effect.

Adam Morton talked to us about depression and how God speaks to it. So if you're struggling with this, there are verses to

look up that can help you.

We have camp coming up next month and we're all super excited about that. We thank you for all the donations , support,

and fundraising opportunities you have given us in the last few months to help us prepare. We're all looking forward to a

week of nothing but Jesus and bonding with each other.

Also, school is out and I think I speak for us all when I say that we're super happy for summer break. Even with some of

the activities put on hold for the summer, you can still find us having Youth Group in the basement starting at 6:15 every

Wednesday. As always, we thank you for all of your encouragement and prayers you give us throughout the year.

The month of May was a very good month for the youth group.

We've had some guest speakers come talk to us. The first one

was Amanda Casto, and she talked to us about the importance

of our decisions at a young age and related it to a family

member who struggled with certain sins. She taught us that you

From Your Pastor

Church family, for some time now we have been taught by the

secular world to think that our faith is just one of the many

lifestyle options that a person can choose. It’s no more or less

“true” than any other option. But my friends, choosing

Christianity isn’t like choosing a favorite movie or a favorite

sandwich. It’s a way to think about the world.

I ran across some words from the late Chuck Colson that I

would like to share with you.

Colson said back in 1991 that Christianity “is a view of the

world … it is a way of seeing all of reality. It isn't just

salvation and a relationship with Jesus, vital though that is. It

is a life system. God created the world and everything in it;

therefore everything finds its ultimate meaning in relationship

to Him. Christianity gives us the framework to understand

politics, science, economics, the arts, education, and ethics. “

He goes on to say: “Too often, you see, we treat our faith as

just one more item on our to-do list. But if Christianity is true,

it’s the central framework for everything, the grid that

overlays all of life.

Why is it so important to have a Christian worldview?

Because Christianity gives us a map to reality, an outline of

the world the way it really is: God's moral and physical order.

And if we want to make our way effectively through life, to live

in accord with reality, we have to follow the map.

A Christian worldview also helps us defend our faith, giving

us the language to explain why Christian ethics is good for

society, or why a biblical view of human nature is essential to

sound public policy.

Finally, a Christian worldview helps us to evangelize, giving

us the tools to analyze what is shaping the values of the

culture so that we can get the secularists attention, and they

can hear the gospel.”

Starting Sunday evening, June 30, I want to take us on a four-

week journey that I trust will help us think more clearly about

truth, faith and a way of thinking that has left so many

Christians uncertain about their faith: Moral Relativism.

Only as we think clearly can we share a clear message of hope

with a lost and supremely confused world. I hope you will

join us.

And this month we have an opportunity to live out the Gospel

message as we collect items for the Kentucky Sheriff’s Boys

and Girls Ranch. On Sunday evening, June 23 we will be

serving up a hot dog dinner on Sunday evening for over 100

kids. We are fortunate in Kentucky to be able to be open

about our faith … lets’ not allow this opportunity pass us by.

And one final reminder: Our Electronic Giving option

(E-Giving) is now available. Please note the E-Giving

insert enclosed in this edition of The Challenge.

May this be the best summer yet as we walk with God and live

out our days as the First Baptist Church family.

Together in Him,

Bro Jim

Words of Appreciation

Mona and I express our deepest appreciation to all of

you for the twenty year recognition of our ministry here at

First Baptist. The years have gone very quickly, it seems.

When we first came to Calvert City in April of 1993, our two

boys were very young and those of you who were here when

we arrived got to see both of them grow and mature into fine

young men. Mona and I thank you for how you took both of

them “under your wings” and helped them in their formative

years here. None of us in our family had any idea how many

years we would call Calvert City home.

During our time here we have seen many changes and people

have come and gone. Some have died and others have moved

to other communities, but we have also seen some wonderful

new people come into the fellowship of our church body. Jim

is the fourth pastor I have served with here at the church since

1993. God has used all of these men in various ways to help

the church move forward. I am thankful for Jim’s faithful

leadership and his heart for this church family. Continue to

give him and his family your support as he leads us into the

future.

Mona and I thank you for the program you presented and for

the wonderful gifts you gave. We will enjoy the time away in

Nashville as we spend time together. We plan to worship with

Patrick and Angie in their church on Sunday morning, June 2.

Thank you all for contributing to our growth since our arrival

and I trust that we have contributed to yours as well. We look

forward to what God has in store for this church body as we

continue to serve Him together.

Children’s Choir Spring Program

The children’s choir did an outstanding job during

their spring program in May. I am so proud of every one of

them! All of them are good singers and I hope they continue

singing and enjoying music for the rest of their lives. Please

continue to encourage them as they grow and mature. The

new choir year will resume after Labor Day in September.

Sonrise National Park VBS is Coming!

As kids explore SonRise National Park, they’ll learn

the most important survival skill of all: they can always

depend on Jesus and His promises of true peace, true riches,

true power, true love and true hope! At SonRise National

Park, kids will learn to trust Jesus as their all-powerful guide

and Savior! This description is in the Gospel Light materials

for the curriculum we plan to use this summer during the week

of June 10-14, which is coming very soon.

Who doesn’t like the outdoors and the beautiful scenery we

experience at our national parks across this country? Pray for

our leaders and children as they come together for this week of

fun and learning. Ladona Little and Sarah Peck are co-

directing this year’s VBS, so please hold them up in your daily

prayers.

Serving with Joy!

Rick Johnson

ELECTRONIC GIVING OPTION NOW AVAILABLE

Subject: Electronic Giving

May 22, 2013

Dear Church family,

For the past several weeks we have been pursuing plans to introduce an electronic giving (e-giving) option for our church family. At

our April Membership Meeting the church approved a 6 month trial program through NCS-E-Giving … sponsored by LifeWay

Christian Stores … the system is ready for use!

While not all of our members may wish to use e-giving, we recognize that electronic funds transfers are common for many of our

members. For those who are comfortable with this electronic funds transfer, our e-giving process should help make your giving easier

and allow you to give even when you cannot be present at worship services. Contribution options include Regular Offering/Tithe,

Building Fund, and several Designated Funds. At this point we are offering checking/savings account transfers and debit cards only.

Registration for e-giving is free and easy to accomplish. If for any reason you should decide to terminate your e-giving, you may do

so at no cost to you or to the church. For those who choose not to participate, your giving process will not be impacted in any way.

Our sole intent is to provide our members an option that might make giving easier and more systematic.

Enclosed you will find specific instructions about how to register for our e-giving process. In addition, we’ve also included answers

to some frequently asked questions.

Again, e-giving may not be for everyone, but if this opportunity is something you would be interested in pursuing, please check it out

by logging onto our website at www.calvertfbc.org and then CLICK on the QUICK LINK entitled E-Giving Online.

Our hope is this opportunity will be a great benefit to many of our members. Please feel free to ask any question at any time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q - What is the advantage of E-Giving? A. It saves time! It saves work! It simplifies your life! You also help the organization stabilize its budget and save money.

Q - What is the advantage of E-Giving? A. It saves time! It saves work! It simplifies your life! You also help the organization stabilize its budget and save money. Q - How is my electronic contribution automatically deducted from my account? A. You may log onto your organization’s E-Giving site, and give via credit or debit card, or read the agreement and check the box for ach transactions to make donations via checking or savings account at the site. Once you authorize the transfer, your specified contributions can be taken out once or on a regular basis as you choose. The contribution is transferred directly from your checking or savings account to the organization’s account.

Q - When will my contribution be deducted from my account? A. Your contribution will be debited from your account on the first business day. If your donation is scheduled on a Sunday, your donation will not be processed until the following business day. Credit or debit cards will take approximately 2 business days to initiate and clear. ACH transactions take 4 business days to initiate and clear. You will receive an email when the donation is initiated and another email when the process is complete. Refunds of donations will be made by the Church or organization that receives the donation.

Q- Can anyone who works at the church see my bank or credit/debit account numbers? A. No one at the church has access to your account/credit/debit card numbers.

Q – Is electronic giving risky? A. Electronic giving involves significantly less risk than a check contribution. It cannot be lost, stolen or destroyed in the mail, and cannot be handled by as many people during processing. Many methods of reducing risk cannot be applied in a paper check environment, but are very effective in reducing any risk involved with an electronic transaction.

Q – How much does electronic giving cost? A. It costs you nothing and saves you time. The organization pays nominal transaction fees…the lowest available. Credit and Debit cards involve a higher fee than savings or checking account transfers. Because of this, you may choose to give by your bank account to save additional costs for your organization.

Q – What if I try it and don’t like it? A. You can cancel your automatic deductions anytime via your member profile.
