VIEW OF THE SINGLE-FAMILY AREA

• The city has a traffic network of 720 km. Its winter maintenance cost EUR 4.2 million in 2012.
• Contracting will increase relative to in-house production. This presupposes an understanding of ownership issues and clear definitions of quality levels.
• A lack of markets presents problems. However, the city can affect their development.
• The users of roads and streets have higher and higher expectations: summer conditions in the middle of winter.
• The coordination of land use and winter maintenance presents challenges: winter maintenance must be effective but inexpensive.
• Traditional, snowy winters alternate with winters with little snow when winter maintenance mainly involves the prevention of slipperiness.
