Announcements

We will take up a second collection this weekend

for the victims of the recent earthquake in Mexico.

There are many changes to the Mass schedule

this week. See Page 2 for details.

First Friday and First Saturday are this week.

Our customary First Friday Adoration will begin

with Exposition after the 5:45 p.m. Mass and end

with Benediction at 8:15 a.m. Saturday. A signup

sheet is on the lectern near the back pews.

Saturday, Oct. 7, is the Feast of Our Lady of the

Most Holy Rosary. We have multiple Masses and

prayer services planned for our patronal feast day,

including two public recitations of the rosary. Please

see Pages 2 and 5 for more information.

The Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary encour-

ages all parishioners to recite the rosary at every

Mass here throughout October — the month of the

rosary and in commemoration of the 100th anniver-

sary of the Marian apparitions in Fatima. A signup

sheet will be in the vestibule for anyone interested

in leading the rosary before Masses (or after

Masses if there is a special liturgy).

Immediately after every Mass this weekend, the

story and history of the Flame of Love of the Im-

maculate Heart of Mary will be presented in our

first-floor classroom. The one-hour presentation will

include a 25-minute video, messages from Our Lord

and Our Lady, and an explanation of their requests.

Free materials and books will be available.

The annual Central Indiana Life Chain will be

today (Sunday) along Meridian Street from 2:30 p.m.

to 3:30 p.m. This is a peaceful, prayerful public wit-

ness in support of the sanctity of human life. Holy Ro-

sary parishioners have been assigned to the west side

of Meridian Street between 22nd and 24th streets.

Please pray for our sick and shut-in friends: Deb-

bie Barry, Archbishop-emeritus Daniel Buechlein,

John Caito, Verna Carr, Katie Cecil, Son Hui Chris-

tensen, Sharon Conrad, Carol Craig, Paquita Fallas,

Jody Gassert, Sam Gorsage, Robert Hanaway, Jose-

phine Lombardo, Brad Love, Sidia Mora, Tony

Navarra, Nathan Oliver, Phil Vierneisel, Sister Rita

Vukovic, Fr. James Wilmoth and Jenifer Zehner.

Did you miss our High School Youth Group kick-

off? It isn’t too late to join and experience the great

year they have planned. Contact corissavander-

[email protected] to be added to their e-list. Continued on page 6

Pilgrims offer to take your prayer requests to Lourdes and Fatima

A group of our parishioners will be going on pilgrimage this month to Lourdes and Fatima. They have

graciously offered to take along prayer requests from fellow parishioners; these requests will be placed at

the altar at each shrine during Mass. To make a request, go to the statue of Our Lady of Fatima in our

church, place your written request in the provided envelope and leave it in the accompanying basket. Re-

quests must be made by 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6. These envelopes will never be opened, so please don’t place

anything else in them.

Views and opinions expressed in the linked articles are strictly those of their authors and do not necessarily reflect those of the pastor and staff of Holy Rosary Church, Archbishop Charles C. Thompson or anyone else connected to the Archdiocese

of Indianapolis.

Dear parishioners,

T his past Monday, Father Reese notified me that

he was experiencing some personal and family

issues which would require a greater amount of his

attention. He let me know that he had asked for a

leave of absence from Archbishop Thompson, and

that he hoped it would be granted. I gave him the

week off and, at the end of the week, the Archbishop

informed me that he intended to grant Father Reese

the leave of absence. As of the writing of this note,

the length of the leave had not been fully determined,

but it will be at least a few months. I expect it will

extend past Christmas and into the new year.

I ask that we all respect Father Reese’s and his fam-

ily’s privacy to allow them to deal with these per-

sonal issues. I have made it clear to him that the par-

ish and I will continue to pray for him and for his

family during this time. Unless Father Reese happens

to reach out to you, please do not interrupt this time

allotted to him.

Please do not ask me the details of Father Reese’s

situation. As his pastor, I am privy to many of the

details of his and his family’s personal life, as I am

of most of my parishioners. I am not free to discuss

these matters, just as I am not free to discuss your

personal matters. If you do ask, I will politely but

firmly tell you to “mind your own busi-

ness.” Additionally, do not make Father Reese and

his family the subject of speculation or gossip. This

is a sin. Please do remember to pray for him and his

family.

I am very grateful for Father Reese’s service to our

parish. He will be greatly missed during this

leave. Quite obviously, without a second priest active

at Holy Rosary, our Mass schedule and other events

will be affected. Please be patient with me and the

staff as we work to adjust to the current situation and

attempt to accommodate, as much as possible, all of

the many activities at our parish. Thank you in ad-

vance for all your prayerful support. God bless!

Masses, rosaries highlight parish’s

patronal feast day As befits a parish on its patronal

feast day, Holy Rosary Church

will be a busy place this coming

Saturday, Oct. 7.

Activity actually begins the pre-

vious evening with our customary

First Friday Adoration. Exposi-

tion will follow the 5:45 p.m.

Mass, and the Blessed Sacrament

will be exposed on the altar

throughout the night until Bene-

diction at 8:15 a.m. Saturday.

We will have two Sung Masses

of Our Lady of the Most Holy

Rosary on Saturday morning. The

first, in the Extraordinary Form,

will begin at 8:30 a.m. The sec-

ond, in the Ordinary Form, will

begin at 10 a.m.

Then, shortly after the second

Mass concludes (no sooner than

10:45 a.m.), the Blessed Sacra-

ment will again be exposed while

the faithful pray 15 decades of

the rosary. This will mark the end

of a 54-day “Novena for Our

Nation.”

We, in conjunction with the

Santo Rosario Council of the

Knights of Columbus, encourage

all to stay for — or come to — a

Biking for Babies Rosary and

Prayer Rally in our church. A

group of bicyclists from the K of

C Mater Dei Council will be

stopping here at about 12:30 p.m.

This will mark the midway

point of the bicyclists’ three-day,

160-mile trek from Terre Haute

to Richmond. Their goal is to

raise awareness for the sanctity of

Life and to raise funds for the

Gabriel Project’s work with ex-

pectant mothers-in-need.

Finally, though technically not

part of the feast day, we will have

our usual 4:30 p.m. Mass.
