2017 LATINO HERITAGE CELEBRATION MONTH Honoring our Heritage, Building our Future SEPTEMBER 2017 - OCTOBER 2017 Celebration of Independence Days 9/15 - Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. 9/16 - Mexico 9/18 - Chile Time: All Month During Hispanic Heritage Month, seven countries celebrate their independence. Each country’s flag and information will be displayed outside the Office of Multicultural Affairs in the Memorial College Center. Fiesta Day Thursday, 9/14/2017 | 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Student Union Residential Plaza and Ballroom Rain Location) Kick off Latino Heritage Month with the Office of Multicultural Affairs and HOLA and enjoy authentic Latin American food, music and performances. St. Augustine Adventure Day Saturday, 9/16/17 | All Day Downtown St. Augustine, FL Explore the Castillo de Marcos, a Spanish fort built in 1672, and spend the rest of the day enjoying downtown St. Augustine on your own. Deadline to register is September 9. The cost is $20, which includes transportation and entrance to the fort. Register at the Office of Multicultural Affairs - MCC 211. Flamenco Dance Lessons Tuesday, 09/19/2017 | 6 - 8 p.m. Rec Center Want to dance flamenco? Join Dr. Encarnacion Cruz and HOLA Club for a lesson in one of Spain’s native dances. Brown Bag: Indigenous Art from Argentina Dr. Rachel Green Wednesday, 9/20/17 | Noon - 1 p.m. UH 157 The Wichí are an indigenous people who live in the Gran Chaco, an arid subtropical region of low forests and savannas located in northwestern Argentina, Paraguay, and southern Bolivia. In one Wichí community, on the outskirts of a small town in Northwest Argentina, a family of three generations maintain their language and traditional textiles.
