Our History
Women’s Equality DayAugust 26, 1920
Women Celebrate the Passage of the 19th Amendment
granting them the right to vote
In the 1970s, Women march in Washington supporting ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, which
BPW/NYSW first formally endorsed on July 17, 1937.
Equal Pay Day: April 8, 2014
To underscore the economic inequity
women face in their jobs, BPW launched its
Red Purse Campaign with the theme
“Better Pay for Women” in 1987.
2003 marked the 75th Anniversary of National Business Women's Week™. In recognition of the vital role of women in business, leaders of BPW/USA and the BPW Foundation rang the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on Tuesday, October 21, 2003.
This was the first time in the history of the NYSE that ONLY women were on the platform to ring the bell.
