1910.269 OSHA announces final rule revising standards for electric power generation,transmission and distribution

The two OSHA regulations/rules covering safe work practices for the electric utility industry were just updated. CFR29 1910.269 & 1926.960 have been in the revision process for many years and are now finally completed and distributed via federal mandate with timelines to be in compliance. 1910.269 covers the operation and maintenance part of the industry while 1926.960 covers construction.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOUR COMPANY:• Cotton or melting fabric is no longer allowed• FR clothing is now required - Personal Protection

Equipment (PPE)• Employers are responsible for providing this

equipment• Employers are responsible to assess the workplace

for electric arc hazards• Employers are required to provide workers with

arc rated clothing when the estimated incidentenergy exceeds 2 cal/cm2
