Do Tutorial 5 Case 4 Stanley EcoTours on pages AC 299 – AC300, steps 1-7 and 13-17 only (skip steps 8-12). Make the following changes:

Step 1: Click the Enable Content button after opening the file.

Step 4: To clarify, qryNonBrazilOrPeruTours should show all countries except Brazil and Peru. It should show neither Brazil nor Peru.

Add a new step between steps 6 and 7: Janice is considering a $200 discount for any tour lasting more than 6 nights. Create a query that shows, for all Tours, TourID, TourName, Nights, PricePerPerson, and a calculated column named ProposedRate that shows either the regular PricePerPerson or the discounted rate, depending on whether the tour lasts more than 6 nights. Sort the rows in descending order of number of nights. Save the query as qryDiscountOffer-YourName.

Step 13: Before you do the step, you’ll first have to delete the existing relationship between tblReservation and tblTour. Your Relationships Window should show all 3 tables and two join lines. If not, click the All Relationships button. Now do step 13 as written. Then modify the relationship between tblReservation and tblTour to enforce Referential Integrity, cascading Updates but not Deletes.

Add a new step between step 13 and step 14: Use the Input Mask Wizard to add an input mask to the Phone field in tblGuest. The input mask should use periods as separators (eg: 480.423.6265, with all ten digits required; storing the periods as literal display characters, and using an asterisk (*) as the placeholder. Switch to Datasheet View and test the Input Mask by navigating to the new record (at the bottom of the datasheet) and entering your own phone number as the new record’s Phone field value. Then abandon the new record by pressing the [Esc] key after you type the last digit. Notice that all of the existing Phone values continue to show dashes since they were entered and stored along with the digits. Delete the first record’s phone number (208-344-0975) and click another phone number. Now, return to the first record and type the phone number (847.623.0975). Note that the Input Mask kicks in as you enter the digits.

Add new step 18: Use Windows Explorer to rename your Ecotour.accdb file to include your name (eg: Ecotour – Tom Trollen.accdb). Then backup the renamed file by copying it to the CIS117 Data Files\Access2\Case4 folder on your USB flash drive.

Send your file as an e-mail attachment to [email protected] and include the assignment number in the subject line.

Read/Study Appendix A Relational Databases and Database Design, pages AC A1 – AC A11, stop at Integrity Constraints. Make the following changes:

Page AC A10: Figure A-10 contains three errors: In the Employee table, EmployeeNum should not be cited as a FK. In the Position table, PositionID should not be cited as a FK. In the EmployeeBonus using a PK of EmployeeNum won’t work because an employee could receive many bonuses over time. The discussion on page AC A8 mentions “annual bonuses” so the design should probably also include a BonusDate field. Then, a composite of EmployeeID and BonusDate could be considered for primary key duty.

Page AC A10 (bottom): The author discusses using bolding for required fields and using either a dotted or solid line depending on the mandatory or optional nature of relationship. We will ignore these visual style elements because those nuances may not be apparent in the brief design problems we will work. Therefore, we will forego bolding of field names and will use solid lines to portray each table relationship.

Type your answers to Review Assignments 1-8 on page AC A28, omitting question 7. [Note: You’ll submit these answers after you include answers to additional questions in an upcoming assignment. Do not email this file yet.]

Do Tutorial 6 Case 4 Stanley EcoTours, pages AC 379 – AC 380. Make the following changes:

Step 1: Click the Enable Content button after opening the file, if necessary.

Step 3: I asked you to set this Referential Integrity option back in Chapter 5. Check it now and set it, if necessary. Save but do not print the Relationship Report.

Step 4: Don’t print.

Step 5: Omit (skip) this step.

Step 7c: Have the combo box display GuestID, (as illustrated) when the list box portion is closed but show GuestID, Last Name and First Name when the list box portion is pulled down.

Step 7d: Note that the subform control does not display a horizontal scroll bar. Adjust your column widths and the subform control to prevent yours from having a scroll bar.

Step 7e: As you did in the chapter, you’ll first need to add a calculated control in the subform’s Form Footer to do the calculating. Remember to name the calculated control so you can later place a calculated control on the main form that refers to its value.

Add a new step 9: Use Windows Explorer to backup your Ecotour.accdb file to the CIS117 Data Files\Access2\Case4 folder on your USB flash drive.

Do Tutorial 7 Case 4 Stanley EcoTours, pages AC 441 – AC 442. Make the following changes:

Save your work frequently.

Step 1: Click the Enable Content button after opening the file, if necessary.

Step 3: Since none of the layouts provided by the Report Wizard resemble the illustration, begin by creating a new Blank report in Design View and do everything yourself, as you did in the Tutorial (AC405+). Once the new, empty report appears, set its RecordSource property to qryTourReservations. Also, notice that the directions in step 3 say Figure 7-43 shows a sample of the last page of the completed report, yet it displays Page 1 in the upper right. Don’t worry that your report will have more than one page… apparently we have more records.

Step 3i: Do as written. Also, the client wants to ensure the date, title, page numbering, column headings, and line beneath the column headings all appear on each page of the report. Carefully size and align the controls to match Figure 7-43 and mimic its vertical spacing. Don’t overlook the total people controls.

Add new step 3j: Add automatic formatting so that any Tour whose People value is greater than 5 automatically displays as bold, green text.

Step 5: Omit.

Add new step 7: Use Windows Explorer to backup your Ecotour.accdb file to the CIS117 Data Files\Access2\Case4 folder on your USB flash drive.

Read/Study/Do Access Tutorial 10 Automating Tasks with Macros, Session 10.2 on pages AC 572 – AC 598. Make the following changes:

Page AC 575, step 1 (top portion of page): Click the Enable Content button after opening the file, if necessary.

Page AC 575, step 2 (top portion of page): Skip this step… we won’t have these action queries because we did not do Tutorial 9 Session 1.

Page AC 592: step 13: Do as written. Notice that the list box’s first query is selected… because your On Load macro ran in response to the form’s Open event!

Page AC 597: add new step 14: Use Windows Explorer to backup Health.accdb to the CIS117 Data Files\Access3\Tutorial folder on your USB flash drive.

Answer Quick Check questions on page AC 598. Answers are available at wwwi.scottsdalecc.edu/trollen/CIS117/QuickChecks.

Review the material in Tutorial 10 and consider adding appropriate notes to your exam crib sheet.

Do Tutorial 10 Case 4 Stanley EcoTours, page AC 602. Make the following changes:

Step 1: Click the Enable Content button after opening the file, if necessary. Also, we won’t have any action queries to delete because we skipped those portions of Tutorial 9 Case 4.

Step 2c: Add functional Preview and Display buttons similar to those in the chapter (AC588+). Do not build a Design View button.

Step 3: The Navigation form must expose frmQueries on a separate Queries tab (review Figure 10-40 on pg. AC597). Do not expose frmQueries mixed in with the other forms.

Step 5: Use Windows Explorer to backup your Vacation.accdb database file to the CIS117 Data Files\Access3\Case4 folder on your USB flash drive.
