MESSAGE FOR WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE SICK.
“The sick, and those who are disabled, even severely, have their own
inalienable dignity and mission in life. They never become simply objects. If at times they appear passive, in reality that is never the case.
On this Twenty - fifth World Day of the Sick, may we find new incentive to work for
the growth of a culture of respect for life, health and environment. May this Day also inspire renewed efforts to defend the integrity and dignity of persons, not least
through a correct approach to bioethical issues, the protection of the vulnerable and the protection of the environment.
As we pray to Mary, may her maternal intercession sustain and accompany our faith,
and obtain for us from Christ her Son hope along our journey of healing and of health, a sense of fraternity and responsibility, a commitment to integral human
development and the joy of feeling gratitude whenever God amazes us by his fidelity and his mercy.”
(Excerpt from Message of Pope Francis).

If you know of somebody who is ill and does not have transport please consider bringing them to Mass on that morning.
A Holy Time: W isdom of the heart means being with our brothers and sisters. Time spent with the sick is holy time. It is a way of
praising God who conforms us to the image of his Son, who came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Jesus himself says: “I am among you as one who serves”. (Pope Francis, Message for World Day of The Sick)

There is a saying which we are all familiar with - ‘When all is said and done, there’s a lot more said than done’. Faith, hope and charity only really come alive when they are done
Paul is only too aware of his own weakness and limitations. Yet in the midst of knowing this he experiences the power of God active in him. Because of this he can sincerely share the crucified and risen Christ with the Church. We too have been commissioned to preach the Word and can only do so authentically when we realise our own weakness and double standards.
In Jesus’ time salt was used for much more than seasoning food. When mixed with animal dung, made into a patty and placed on a slab of salt, the chemical reaction gave of quite a heat. This was how ovens were fired. Eventually the catalytic ability of the salt slab would wear out, but it still had its use as a piece of paving. The Gospel is really about Jesus urging his disciples to be on fire and in doing so let his light shine so that all can see. ___________________________
