• Gain public trust in its impartiality, accuracy and high quality services
• A platform for open, unfettered expression of views and opinions
• Reviewed in 1986 to become an independent institution
•Debate went on for more than 20 years
•Secured editorial independence in 90’s
New RTHK
• Announced 22 September 2009• RTHK would remain as a
Government department • Take up the mission as the public
service broadcaster in Hong Kong• 3-month public consultation on
how the new RTHK should operate to fulfill its mission.
New RTHK Consultation
• Charter to be issued covering all the main aspects of RTHK’s operation
•An Advisory Board to be appointed by CE – a high-level advisory body to advise Director of Broadcasting
New RTHK – expanded services
• To run DAB services
• Operate its own TV channels in HD and SD
• New programming opportunities on digital TV and radio platforms
New RTHK – community participation
• A platform for community participation
• Community Broadcasting Involvement Fund to be set up
• RTHK to administer the fund
