SALUKI SPIRIT ANNOUNCEMENTS (9/25/17 – 10/2/17): 1) As always, if anybody has items that they would like to add to the weekly Saluki Spirit Announcements, please send them to Dr. Phil Anton at: [email protected] The Announcements are designed to reflect Saluki Spirit in all aspects of campus and the community, so send whatever you want from any corner of southern Illinois. Pictures are always a great addition. 2) #SalukiFriday is upon us again: Remember to wear your Saluki gear on Fridays! Also, send pics of your group(s) to Dr. Anton, as well as Randy Johnson at 710: [email protected] Photos will be featured in the Saluki Spirit Announcements and on 710's Facebook and Twitter platforms. In the photo below, the faculty and staff of the College of Education and Human Services shows their Saluki Spirit at their annual Fall Meeting. 3) This week on #SalukiFriday we swung by the ESPN3 truck to help Saluki Video Services was prep for the Saluki Volleyball match broadcast. Those pictures will be up soon on the "SIUC Department of Kinesiology" Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SIUC-Department-of-Kinesiology- 201366063240550/), on our Twitter page: https://twitter.com/SalukiSpirit (swing by and give us a follow @SalukiSpirit), and our “salukispirit” Instagram page. The winner of the Facebook Poll on the Dept. of Kinesiology page for the pics taken at SIUC Information Technology last week is at the end of the Announcements. 4) Saluki Cross Country’s Women’s and Men’s teams back on the course this weekend on Friday, Sept. 29 at the Notre Dame Invitational. If you are unable to make it to South Bend, run with them on Twitter: https://twitter.com/SIU_TrackXC 5) The Saluki Green Action Team’s focus this month is sustainability and carbon footprint reduction in the office by sponsoring the Green Office Program. Post your sustainability methods to their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SIUgreenaction/) and share and tag them on Instagram/Twitter (@siugreenaction) to be entered for a chance to win this month's prize!

6) Saluki Women’s Golf hits the course again on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 2-3 at the APSU Intercollegiate in

7) Show your Saluki Spirit by volunteering for the Southern Illinois Heart Walk coming up on Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Depot at Walker’s Bluff Winery. The event will run from 8 – 11:30 AM and there are various opportunities to help out. If you or your group are interested, please contact Ashley Ryker at: [email protected]; 217-331-6779 8) The Carbondale Lions Club has it Fall Pancake Days on Sat. Sept. 30 from 7 AM – 1 PM and Sunday Oct. 1 from 8 AM to 1 PM at the Town Square Pavilion in downtown Carbondale. Tickets may be purchased from a Lions Club member or at the door: Adults: $6 Children under 12: $3 Pancake Days have helped the Lions donate more than $10,000 annually to various local agencies as well as pay for eye examinations and purchase glasses for those in need. 9) Saluki Football battled Memphis hard, but dropped a tough game. They are back home for Family Weekend this Saturday, Sept. 30 at 6 PM vs. Northern Iowa at Saluki Stadium. This is also the annual Blackout Cancer Game. Come on out and support local cancer survivors and their families.

11) Show your Saluki Spirt and raise funds for the Student American Dental Hygienists’ Association at Pagliai’s Pizza in Carbonale (509 S. Illinois Ave). On Thursday Sept. 28 from 5 – 8 PM, a portion of your bill will go to support the SADHA!

10) Saluki Volleyball made it’s Davies Gym debut in fine style with a 3-1 victory over Valpo. Their Missouri Valley Conference season continues this weekend with two more home Davies matches this Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 PM vs. Evansville and then vs. Indiana St. on Sat, Sept. 30 at 7 PM. League newcomer Valpo felt the pressure of the Davies Gym environment – let’s make the Aces and the Trees feel the same pressure! 11) If your Dept or College is doing outreach in the community, please share details with SIUC Director of Community Relations, Karen Stallman, at 618-453-2425 OR [email protected] 12) The Africana Theater Lab’s fall variety show “Black Don’t Crack” is this Thursday, Sept. 28 in Student Center Ballroom B at 7 PM.
