The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a world-class res@arclil university with special emghasis on Science, En§ineering, and Management, and close collaboration w ith industry and business. In addition, its School of Humanities and Social Sci@nc@ is small !but excellent.

HKUST has more than 440 faculty members, all holding PhD degrees. Many have taught in the world's leading research universities, or occupied senior research posts in major industrial laboratories. They possess extensive research credentials and rich experience in directing postgraduate and iPostdoctoral studies.

The Universit y emolls approximately 1,860 new undergraduates and 560 postgraduates each year in four schools and 19 departments/divisions English is the language used in teaching and !research activities .

As a state-of-the-art research university, HKUST is actively creating the knowledge and advanced technologies that will sustain local and regional development in the Zlst century Noteworthy examples are:

* 14 patents granted and 51 mcm filed (predominantly US)

* over 100 University-industry cooperative projects and contract research projects conducted for local companies, valued at HK$36 million in 1998-99

* more than 20 new technologies, some ready for s@cond­stage development and some already commercialized, available to industry and investors

* 8 Cooperative Research Center projects, funded by the HKSAR Government with sponsorships from the industry, spearheading research of industrial interest

* an Engineering Industrial Consortium oovering some 20 core technologies established by the School of Engineering, with over 30 fee-paying companies

* high-level executive education offered by the School of Business & Management to train executives to meet the challenges of changing market environment; and continuing & professional programs provided by the School of Engineering to further professional development at various levels

* 10 technology-based start-up companies accepted into the HKUST Entrepreneurship Program.

大學設有 19個學系 ， 分別隸屬四個學院 理學院、工

學院、工商管理學院及人文社會科學學院 ， 每年招收約

1 ， 860名本科生及560名研究生。所有教學及研究活動

均以英語進行。

科大擁有最先進的研究設備 ， 努力開拓知識字頁域，發展

高新技術 ' 協助香港和鄰近地區邁進二十一世紀。重要

成果包括 :

* 14 工頁發明已取得專利(主要是美團專利) ， 另外尚有

51 項在申請中;

女大學正與本地公司進行超過一百項合作項目或合同研

究 ， 1998-99 年的總值達 3 ，600 萬港元;

* 有 20多項正在開發階段或己商品化的新工業技帝時，

可轉移工業界或投資者，

*獲香港特別行政區政府撥款，並得到工業界的資助，

科大設立8個合作研究中心，牽頭推動香港工業的發

展 ， 從事達到國際學術水平的科研項目 ;

*工學院所設立的“工業聯盟 "涵蓋20多項核心技術 ，

已有超過 30 家公司繳費加入 ;

*工商管理學院開辦不同類型的高級行政人員教育課

程， 協勛香港及跨國企業培訓管理人才， 迎接商業環

境轉變所帶來的挑戰; 工學院則開辦持續與專業培訓

班 ， 提高香港工業界人士的專業水平，

*新成立的科大創業輔助計劃已為 10問剛起步的科技

公司提供資助。
