The effectiveness ofAdvanced YST II (YamahaActive Servo Technology II)is based upon two principles: theHelmholtz Resonator and negative-impedance drive. Low amplitude signalsinside the cabinet can, due to theHelmholtz Resonance principle, be outputfrom the port as high amplitude waves.Precise wave amplitudes are provided byan amplifier that supplies special signals. Ifthe electrical resistance of the voice coilcould be reduced to zero, the movement of

the speaker unit would become linear withrespect to signal voltage. To achieve this, aspecial negative-impedance output driveamplifier is used, so theimpedances cancel out andbecome zero.

The Advanced YST II alsouses Advanced NegativeImpedance Converter (ANIC)circuits, which allow theconverter to dynamically vary inorder to select the optimumvalues for speaker impedance

Rack Mountable Design Matches Surround Systems and Micro Component SystemsThe typical subwoofer box is not agood aesthetic match for a slim frontsurround system such as a YamahaDigital Sound Projector™. So Yamahacreated a new design for the YST-FSW150 and YST-FSW050. Muchslimmer than normal subwoofers, thewill fit neatly in a rack below thesurround system. These units willalso go well with micro componentsystems such as Yamaha’sPianoCraft series. Of course, thecompact, rack mountable designsaves space as well.
