Office of Student Activities, Involvement & Leadership Trinity College
Hartford, CT 06106 [email protected]
Dear Class of 2019,
Welcome! On behalf of the entire Orientation team, the Trinity College community, and the Student Activities, Involvement & Leadership (S.A.I.L.) office, we welcome you to your new home for the next four years. We are excited that you chose Trinity to pursue your undergraduate degree and hope that you will fall in love with it just as we did!
As you all know, college is a major stepping stone and transitional period in your life. During your time at Trinity we hope that you will involve yourself in the academic and social spheres of campus, grow in intellect, develop leadership skills, and, most importantly, enjoy your college experience. We hope that you will form a community where you can learn and help each other in a powerful way that positively affects the people and places around you.
Thus, the theme for this year’s Orientation is community. At Trinity, we aspire to foster characteristics that produce well-rounded citizens who will positively impact the community. We designed this year’s Orientation for you to intimately engage with one another to start forming valuable bonds. During Orientation and beyond, we encourage you to push your boundaries to get to know your community. Through your participation in these programs, we hope that you become aware of the opportunities here to maximize your potential. We encourage you to have an open and positive attitude throughout the weekend and attend both the required and optional programs because they are very valuable. Also, we advise you to converse with upperclassmen this weekend and take advantage of the insightful and valuable information they have.
On a side note, be sure to download this year’s Orientation app on your smartphone. Go to:
https://trinitycollegeorientation2015.sched.org

Evoking the pageantry and spectacle stemming from the earliest days of the academy in Western Civilization, this formal ceremony marks the beginning of the College’s 193rd academic year. The President’s Convocation offers faculty, staff, and upper-year students the occasion to welcome new scholars into the community formally and to surround them with Trinity’s history. Faculty members in full regalia and first-year students will gather at the Fuller Arch at Northam Tower as music from Trinity’s famous 49-bell carillon beckons all on campus. Fanfares from the Quiet City Brass Quintet and Tympani will accompany the faculty and student procession to the Main Quadrangle. During the Convocation ceremony, parents, faculty, student leaders, and members of the administrative staff will be seated on all four sides of the first-year class, forming a symbolic matrix of support as the class begins its years at Trinity. The highlight of this memorable occasion is Trinity College President Joanne Berger-Sweeney’s Convocation address, her most important to students each year. The ceremony concludes with the declaration of the opening of the College’s 193rd academic year by Dean of the Faculty, Thomas Mitzel.
