New nematicide: AR83685 Profile

A novel nematicide with a new approach to reducing the

impact of FLN and PCN

What is it? A liquid formulation of fluopyram (SDHI)

What does it do? Active against cyst, free-living and root-knot nematodes.

+ contribution to Sclerotinia control

How does it work?

Inhibits ATP production in mitochondria causing paralysis

then death of juvenile nematodes.

A completely new MoA for nematicides

Dose rate 0.625 L/ha (250 g ai/ha). Spray on soil and incorporate

Crops Potatoes and carrots

Tox. and Ecotox Favourable

• Used in Europe for ~15 years under

various product names

• Pulses, potatoes, sunflower, maize,

carrots, onions…

• Complicated regulatory history in

the UK, but we are now re-visiting.

• Potato submission with CRD – completion target date Q4 2018

• Potential for EAMUs and label extension from there:

• Carrots (and parsnips)

• Onions (and other alliums – leek?)

• Celery, sweetcorn, some umbellifer herbs

• Pulses (fresh and combinable – though DFB?), Sunflowers.

• Given the timescale (metobromuron), need to consider approach with AHDB

• Following EAMUs

• EAMUs in parallel?

• Emergency authorisation?

Industry support (BCGA, AHDB) is likely to be critical to help gain

authorisation in time for commercial use in 2019
