NOV/ 2019

Founded in 2012, the Willowick Classic is named after the IWA’s hometown and has been wonby some of the biggest stars to pass through the NWL’s rings. Each Willowick Classic pitssixteen NWL Rookies head-to-head in a single elimination style tournament with a shot at theYoung Lions champion, $100,000 and 5 FREE NWL matches going to the winner. All WillowickClassic matches are determined by a wrestler’s total strategy score with matches that end in atie are broken by the amount of money earned in the Battle Royal. To be eligible for the nextWillowick Classic, wrestlers must be active, Trash talk and not have reached the finals before.

ROUND ONE______________________________________________________________

Fik-Shun opened the event by putting away The Hipster with the Black Arrow.

Big Guns Greg Garnar defeated Kane Kooper with a Reverse Neckbreaker.

Super Bombero Jr. hit the Smokejumper Splash to put away Andrae Cox to advance to round 2.

The Pharmacist RX Pain won by DQ when the Slashmaster refused to stop choking Pain.

There was no comeback for the Comeback Kid after Thatcher Walker’s Sunrise Finish.

It took two of Grizz Muckachaski’s Palm Strikes to take down Yellow Dog 2099 for the win.

Randy Borden’s Reverse DDT out of nowhere was enough to defeat Nick Bloodtrap.

Torch took down the Jersey Joker with a leg whip and used the Angle Lock to get the tap out.

ROUND TWO________________________________________________________________

Fik-Shun dodged a Palm Strike from Grizz Muckachaski and then used a Tornado DDT to plantGrizz in the middle of the ring where he soon after landed a Black Arrow to get the 3 count.

The Pharmacist RX Pain went for the Over-the-Counter on Super Bombero Jr. but the high flyerwas able to wiggle free, spring off the turnbuckle and use a small package to get the pin.

Randy Borden thought he had Thatcher Walker, beat but then Cullen Marston showed up atringside and distracted him long enough for Walker to hit the Sunrise Finish to win.

Torch tried to get an early jump on Greg Garnar, but Big Guns was ready and leveled him with arunning clothesline before dropping him with a Reverse Neckbreaker to finish the match.

SEMI-FINALS_______________________________________________________________

Thatcher Walker showed up with his stable mates, Cullen Marston and Argyle War-Born in hiscorner, but the masked rookie known as Super Bombero Jr. had the fan in his. Walker’s hard-hitting style put a beating on the youngster and the ref nearly stopped the match when Thatchersuplexed Bombero on the floor, but the kid wouldn’t quit. Walked had enough and went for hisSunrise to finish him off, but Bombero spun out and hit a springboard stunner. Argyle andCullen jumped up on the apron and Super Bombero dropkicked the top rope to knock them bothto the floor. Walker grabbed Bombero, but the quick rookie rolled hm up for a three count.

Big Guns Greg Garnar showed no respect for Fik-Shun and the Specialty champion returned thefavor to launch this bout with a lot of fire. The fans got behind the controversial Fik-Shun as theyall hate the man who injured White Elephant Sr. Garnar targeted Fik-Shun’s back with a varietyof submission holds, but the cocky newcomer battled on and eventually used Greg’s tacticsagainst him. When Big Guns went for a Boston Crab. Fik-Shun used a monkey flip to sendGarnar into the are and crush him with a Code Breaker which was good enough for the 3 count.

FINALS____________________________________________________________________

FIK-SHUN vs. SUPER BOMBERO JR.

These two had words for each other before the bell and now wonder since Fik-Shun attackedBombero with his Specialty belt a few weeks ago. Both men used a variety of high risk moves totry and take control of the match and the fans were split in this one, until Fik-Shun began to tauntBombero by slapping him while he was down. This fired him up and he unleashed a volley ofchops that kept Fik-Shun off balance and set him up for the Springboard Stunner, except thecrafty Fik-Shun caught Bombero mid-air and turned it into a Deep Six slam. In no time, Fik-Shunsprung up to the top rope and pulled off a spectacular Black Arrow that crushed Bombero andgave Fik-Shun the pinfall victory and make him the 61st NWL star to win the Willowick Classic!

All NWL players get 17 cycles to learn how to play next to

other NWL rookies until they graduate into the IWA at-large.

This limit applies to the players, not the wrestler, to keep the

NWL process fair for all players in the NWL. Players who do

not transfer into a new league by the 18th cycle will be

transferred out of the NWL into a new league by the IWA.

When 16 rookies join the NWL, they are put into a tournament named after the

IWA’s hometown. The Willowick Classic winner earns 5 free NWL matches and

a shot at the Young Lions Championship in a Triple Threat match.

League Commissioners can sanction titles that are exclusive to their league

and there are two NWL titles; The Unified championship and the Specialty

championship. Both champions earns _5_ Free NWL matches every cycle they

hold the title to use along with their other matches.

Is your wrestler a heroic fan favorite, a sinister bad guy or something in

between? Your promos tell us who they are, what they look like, what they

want and what they‘re willing to do to get it. IWA visionary, Bob Rogers wrote a

great guide which we will include in the NWL Commissioner’s Report every few

cycles to help players create characters that leap off the page with promos and

sneak attacks that shape the leagues they compete in.

Cycle = the IWA runs the matches to determine the results every 3 weeks.

Fed = The NWL lives in the Gold Federation, one of six Federations in the IWA.

Strat = The strategy (15 holds) you select for your wrestler.

Trash Talk = The promos (interviews, attacks, etc) you send in to tell your tale.

PPF = Perfect Point Flow, a wrestler’s holds being set perfectly, high to low.

Drops = The two hold values that drop down to 25 points. (avoid these!)

Flow = Setting a team strat so that a wrestler’s hold values don’t overlap

The NWL is the IWA’s Rookie league and we’re here to help you get the most

out of your IWA experience. Take this time to find your wrestler’s identity, cut

promos on rivals and take your shot at the NWL record books to see where your

wrestlers stands among the stars. NWL Rookies have three basic rules:

No more than 3 wrestlers in the NWL.

Rookies can only play in the NWL for cycles.

Stay active (send in matches) or you won’t get a bulletin.

How do you win a belt? Anyone can challenge the Regional champions, but only

the Regional champions and top ten contenders can challenge the TV champion.

The League champion automatically defends against the TV, Regional champs

and the top 5 contenders who sign the match. Anyone may challenge the

Tag/Six-man champions. Always enter the Battle Royal because the top

finishers win Imaginary money and fill any vacant championships.

When you graduate from the NWL and head into your new

league, you can take the IWA’s Graduation Gift, a $6.00

Match Deal (normally $12.00) that gets you 20 matches and

20 Scrub wins in your first cycle there in your new league.

The IWAR Network formed in 2012 to provide an atmosphere where

the creative style of play could thrive. This resulted in player led

revolution that changed the game by raising the level of play. The

IWAR Network of leagues is made up of five leagues;

Battle Royal League – the IWA’s longest running league.

Blood Bath League – the ultra violent home of hardcore.

Continental Wrestling League – a hotbed of tag team action.

Independent Wrestling League – an old school throwback league

New Wave League – the IWA’s Rookie league for new players.

You can keep up with the action across the IWAR Network by

checking out the IWA Ringside Magazine and join the IWAR Network

Facebook page (just answer the questions) to network with other

players, learn the game and get in on exclusive online content.

YOU have 17 cycles to play in the NWL before graduation

Many players ask why we give them just 17 cycles, so here’s why.o Gives IWA rookies a level playing field to learn the game.o Gives you time to find your wrestler’s voice and character.o 17 cycles = is one ‘IWA season’ or roughly one year’s time.o Transfers out of the NWL are FREE

o Tell the IWA which league, your wrestlers, their records, *s and earnings.o When you transfer, you get a Graduation Gift

($6.00 match deal that gives you 20 matches & 20scrub wins in your first cycle in your new league.)

o The limit is for the player, not the wrestlers, so if you create a new wrestlerand your Graduation cycle reaches, you still move up into the big leagues.

o If you do not transfer out by YOUR 18th cycle, your

wrestlers will be transferred to a new league!

OVERDUE WRESTLERS WILL BE TRANSFERRED

I have played this game for a long, long time. I startedplaying in middle school and through my tours, I have gonefrom a barely a teenager to (ahem) my mid-40s. The IWAhas been the one constant in my life for better than 30years. In a weird way, I think that this old school, PBM gamewas my first love.

When I was growing up, I watched wrestling constantly. Iplayed with my REMCO and LJN wrestling toys. I wouldwrestle in my grandmother’s basement against my buddiesor in tag team against king-sized pillows. The Memphiswrestling loop came into my hometownevery Tuesday night. And I always wanted to be there.

So on a fortuitous afternoon, when my best friend Mikeshowed me an advertisement inside of Wrestling Worldmagazine, I was sold. Back then, there were only 60 holdswith values 1-30. The first big evolution in the game was thesplitting into two federations and adding in the 90-holdsystem. I was bad in the 60-hold system; the rest of my firsttenure remained just as bad in the 90. But I loved playingthe game. I loved wrestling.

I quit the game in 1992 after Mike (my buddy from earlier)drowned. The loss and my college life killed my passion. Ididn’t watch wrestling; I didn’t want to play.

Then in 1995, a group of my old friends joined the IWA(HTL) as sort of a tribute to our lost buddy. We each ran onecharacter, wrote our own trash talk and had a singlemanager writing his own trash talk for the group. It wasperfect. And this time around, I was at least marginallybetter at the strategy picking.

Within a year everyone was gone except me. Anddespite my being alone in my play, I had too much fun toquit. Short of needing an occasional break due to work andlife changes (e.g. getting married, having kids), mycomradery with most other players, my EDGE brethren andthe fun of having an imaginary escape makes this my mostlyhealthy addiction.I have been lucky enough to play characters in successfulleagues like the QML (90’s), MRL (2000’s) and LWL(Present). And I have enjoyed being commissioner in someof those leagues. If you want to know about MRL, check outthe podcast on RetroWrestlingGames YouTubechannel. Fun. Fun. Fun.

Now what might I say to new players or guys returningwith a lot of ring rust on them? Remember that this game isalways meant to be fun. The Internet community is vast;make friends. Learn about different styles of play. And don’tbe afraid to test different styles according to what you wantfrom the game (major championships, the mostchampionships, great storytelling with active in-leaguewriting, joining a stable, whatever). When you find what youlike most, you do you. There is a place for everyone in theIWA. The initial adventure is finding out what and where thatis most satisfying.

Good luck finding your way.Jamie Davis

Game Tips

This is my Hold chart for the Gold Federation (where the NWL lives). Enter the results from this cycle into the JU (June) column.

What went to 25 this cycle? What dropped to 25 in Iron, and Steel? If you are not sure, go to the IWAR Facebook Page to find out.

Why is this important? What ever those drops were (so if the 25s in Iron came from holds that were both 28s, then the drops in iron were 28. If the 25s in Steel came from holds that were valued 29 and 26, then then the drop in Steel were 29/26. Does that make sense? This is important as you want to have a strategy that is as high as possible. There’s going to be more of this in the How to Win in the IWA video which will come out soon.)

Dapper Dan Dee: I’m joined by one of the exciting new stars of the NWL, Super Bombero Jr.

SBJ: Thanks Dan. I’d like to start by remembering La Parka who passed away from injuries he suffered during his

match in November. He was one of the guys I looked up to and he is an icon in Mexico. I’d also like to ask all the fans

out there to take a moment to help those impacted by the Australian bushfires. I’d like to ask everyone out there to help

in anyway they can and if I win the NWL title, I’m going to donate my winnings.

DDD: Wow that is some motivation, but the NWL title is currently held by a man who sucker punched you with his

Specialty title belt, FIK-SHUN. He called you a suck up to boot, what do you have to say to that?

SBJ: I don’t know why he has beef with me, all I’ve tried to do since I arrived was call out the bad guys and let the

other good guys know they ain’t alone, but if Fik-Shun wants to call me names and take cheap shots, that’s fine but

here here’s one for him, loser. That’s what he’s gonna be when I face him. I don’t care if it’s for the NWL title or the

Specialty title, I’m gonna teach him a lesson in manners when I beat him, 1, 2, 3.

DDD: Now you had some words for BIG GUNS GREG GARNAR who made it clear he was going to make you pay for

it and then he beat you in a Ring of Fire match, did you bite off more than you can chew?

SBJ: He got the best of me that time, but I’m not gonna pack up and leave because I lost a match. If that was the

case, Greg would’ve left 20-times over by now, but it doesn’t change who he is. He trash talks people who are not

even active anymore, but I am and the next time we meet, I’ll find a way to win and show him that I can beat him.

DDD: Do you have any concerns about his partner, THE PHARMACIST RX PAIN getting involved?

SBJ: Of course, but if that looney lab tech takes a break from threatening everyone, I’ll dropkick him into next week.

DDD: Before you go, any words for the fans out there?

SBJ: Always. I want to make all sure those kids out there keep safe this winter when ponds can freeze up and look

fun, but they can be dangerous so only go out on ponds that are approved by your local Fire Department. I do have

one other thing to say Dan. I saw your interview with ARGYLE WAR-BORN, CULLEN MARSTON and THATCHER

WALKER and all of them liked to push you around. Not cool. They wanted to send a message to Slaughterhouse,

who may be violent psychos, but they don’t run from a challenge. So my message to Argyle and his pals is the next

time they want to push around a nice guy like Dan Dee, you’ll answer to SUPER BOMBERO JR!

A Note from the Commissioner about Trash TalkI know Trash Talk can be a tough thing to try, but as a way to help players who need some help gettingstarted, I offer Trash Talk help. All you need to do is send me your text and any images you’d like tohave me use. I’ll take what you send me, put them together for you and then include it with my report.I have done this for a few players in the BRL and it’s worked great. What you see on this page is anexample of the same formula here in the NWL. If you have questions, feel free to ask. -Matt Riley
