^sS^ As you know we have had a l o t of recent shortages of gondolas at various points and i n many cases these involved 6 5 - f t . gondolas.
The U. 3. St e e l Corporation have told us that during 1956 when operations were c u r t a i l e d approximately 15% due to s t r i k e conditions, t h e i r v a r i ous *t««l shipping plants were short a minimum of 6000 6 5-ft gondolas. They point out combined ownership of 6 5 - f t . gondolas by eastern and southern c a r r i e r s i s approximately &SG0 and they f e e l at lea s t 2600 6 5 - f t . gondolas should be added to eastern and southern roads ownership.
I n the case of our own System, tf. S. St e e l urges that we acquire 600 additional 6 5 - f t . gondolas.
W i l l you kindly review your gondola requirements and shortages you have experienced and l e t us know what additional you f e e l we should acquire, giving length and other s p e c i f i c a t i o n s of the type you recommend.

On t h i s D i v i s i o n we only receive odd requests for 65 foot gondola cars and we have, generally speaking, been able to take eare of requirements l o c a l l y .
Regarding gondola cars generally, w© a t times do have odd cases where we are temporarily short but as a general rule we are able to take care of our requirements and have not had too much d i f f i c u l t y i n t h i s connection i n the past.
