in 1609 by Henry Hudson who was working for a Dutch trading company.
New York was a Dutch territory, called New Amsterdam until 1664 when the British defeated the Dutch, taking their territories and renaming the area New York
New York remained a colony of Great Britain until the Revolutionary War.
Founding a Nation
New York enjoyed statehood even through the American Civil War
Many people immigrated to American during the 18 and 1900’s, coming first through Elis Island, New York.
A great many immigrants settled in New York
New York saw a large part of the Industrial Revolutions when immigrants began working at factories, creating mass production.
Building Up After the Great Depression New York’s
started to get larger, not only in population, but in size
